There may never be reliable prices for propane again, since the Belvieu, Texas, pricing anchor has all but disappeared this winter. This was confirmed just this week when the operators of the Texas Eastern pipeline, who own the Belvieu, Texas, pricing anchor, offered the country a pumping cycle this week, "Cycle 5B," only to cancel it without warning. This only made worse the shortage the operators of the Texas Eastern pipeline caused by reversing the main pipe that used to supply our area with propane to feed ethane from the new shale fields in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virgina to Texas processing plants. Since there is no longer reliable supply from Belvieu, Texas, propane wholesalers, who process and market propane in bulk on and off the Texas Eastern pipeline, will have no reason to post there price at Belvieu. Instead, they will price it as they want, whenever they want. In other words, propane pricing will be a completely uncontrolled Wild West.
