Advantage Welcomes New Client Intescia

Advantage is pleased to announce the signing of Intescia, our newest client. Intescia is a B-to-B and B-to-C publisher--formerly Reed Business Information--in France. They publish magazines, books and refillable notebooks in industries such as marketing, media, corporate management and consumer legal information. Intescia has offices in Paris and Thiron-Gardais, two hours southwest of Paris. 

 

Intescia was looking to replace multiple systems that were becoming outdated and needed access management for their expanding digital content area. In addition, they were interested in an automated eCommerce platform.

Congratulations to Soon-to-Be Retiree: Greg Stout

In his 30+ years at ACS, Greg Stout has done it all. He was hired as a software engineer in 1983, for the project accounting division of the company. He worked in that division for more than ten years, moving to an analyst position and then to software implementations and project management.  
 

After the project accounting product line was discontinued, Greg moved over to the publishing side, where he has been for more than 20 years. There, his roles have included client support, systems analyst, account manager and project manager. Back then, says Greg, the functions weren't as specialized as they are now. When a publisher signed a contract for Advantage, the analyst teams took over from the sales staff and handled everything for the new client, including implementation of Advantage, production support, upgrades, post-implementation projects and ongoing account management of the day-to-day relationship.
 

Agora Goes Live Via Continuous Update

Congratulations to Agora Publishing, who recently went live on Advantage 2014.5.  This event marks the first since ACS introduced the continuous update method, in which updates are released every four to six weeks.  Clients now have the option of moving to this Feature update track, which eliminates the traditional upgrade project.  Instead, participants get the changes as they become available. (For more information on the continuous update method, see story in Sept/Oct eVantage).

"This is a gigantic milestone for ACS and our clients," said Dan Heffernan, vice president of sales, marketing and product planning.  "We are now in a position to allow our clients to stay current on the latest software without major upgrade projects. It also paves the road to offering Advantage in an SaaS model."

 

Welcome New Employee Sidd Vemuri

Sidd Vemuri has joined the client services division of ACS as an analyst on the team led by Doug Moore. Sidd brings a wide range of education and experience to the position, and is looking forward to developing new skills and meeting new challenges.
 

Born in India, Sidd came to Michigan at the age of 8 to reunite with his mother as she finished a master's program at Eastern Michigan University. Although he spoke no English when he arrived (his mother tongue is Telugu), it only took a couple of months of total immersion in the language at school and via television for Sidd--and his brother--to become fluent. Sidd recalls his first, fully-formed coherent English phrase being "Thunder, thunder, thunder, ThunderCats......HOOOOO!"

Conference and Event Management in Advantage

Did you know that Advantage has a solution for handling events that you put on for customers? The Conference and Event Management (CEM) module supports the registration, invoicing, and informational tracking for conferences (or other events) that your company offers as part of its product line.
 

Don't do events? Think about that possibility for a second. Some of your customers (and prospects) may well be so interested in your subjects that they are willing to pay to have more involvement. In addition to servicing some of your most important customers, you can get some actual human interaction and find out what they like and what could work better.

Bryan Varblow Named VP Client Services

Effective in 2015, Bryan Varblow has been promoted to vice president, client services, reporting to Tom Burbeck, executive 

vice president. Bryan will assume most of the responsibilities previously handled by Greg Stout, who is retiring. The current staff structure and services under Greg will remain in place, with Bryan moving into full leadership for the group.
 

In his nearly ten years at ACS, Bryan has filled multiple key roles including director of client services, project director, team leader, upgrade project manager, implementation project manager, and Support Center analyst. He brings a broad-based knowledge of Advantage projects, client activities and the publishing industry to his new position.

Congratulations x2 to American Master Products
Dual Upgrade to 2014r1

American Master Products (Jerry Baker) is now live on not one, but TWO freshly-upgraded instances of Advantage. The company uses one for its American Master Products (AMP) division and a second for its Baker's Best Health division. 

 

This upgrade is strategically important, as it sets AMP up for another quick upgrade to the 2015 revision along with implementation of the new Cider eCommerce platform. That upgrade and implementation is scheduled to be complete by the end of January 2015.

The American Medical Association Upgrades to 2014r1

The American Medical Association (AMA) successfully upgraded from 12r1 to 14R1 recently. There were several interesting aspects to the upgrade including a move to the .NET environment, implementing the Reprint and CRM modules for the first time, and upgrading Business Intelligence (BI) to SQL Server 2012.
 

Joe Wixted led the AMA team, assisted by Sue Sherrill, Sean Ohlson and Lydia Cruz.
