DR DUBEC

From the Desk of Dr. Dubec

Our last annual Board of Education Awards Meeting highlighting student achievement was held Tuesday evening at East. Parents, families, and friends filled our gyms at each award night. Thank you to everyone who came out to these events to support our students. I am happy to announce that collectively, 233 Palos 118 fifth and eighth graders have earned the President's Academic Award. This award recognizes academic excellence and requires a student to have a 3.5 grade point average for the past two years, and achievement in the 85th percentile or higher in math or reading on Scantron for the current school year.  The district uses GPA, ISAT, and Scantron assessments to track this information.   We commend and celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our students.

As the school year comes to an end, I want to take this time to thank our parent volunteers and district organizations, including the PFA and Educational Foundation for all they do throughout the year.  We are grateful for all of their support, which enables us to provide the best opportunities for our students.

It seems like we just enrolled our graduates in kindergarten, and now we are sending them off to high school.  Our eighth graders will be graduating at Stagg High School on May 30, and we wish them well as they continue their education.

Enjoy a safe and relaxing summer, and please encourage your children to read.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Dubec, Ed.D., J.D.
