North Hills Christian School (NHCS), located in Salisbury, is a co-educational, non-denominational, college-preparatory day school for students in junior kindergarten through high school. Classes began Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Total student enrollment is projected at 324. Availability is limited.
North Hills was established in 1967, and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Matt Mitchell, M.Ed., serves as Head of School and Leslie Pullen, M.Ed., serves as Associate Head of School.
A New Approach for 2012-2013
North Hills Christian School (NHCS) continues to make significant steps towards classical Christian schooling. Latin and formal logic was added over the past few years as part of this transition, and this year's academic program will include a chronologically-based history curriculum for grades 1-4. The same chronology will be introduced next year in grades 5-8, and literature will be updated to align more closely to students' study of history.
In addition, tiered instruction for students in the elementary school will be implemented for reading and math. Students will be divided into several groups according to their ability level rather than grade level so that teachers can tailor their instruction to meet the child's needs, improve their readiness, and to build a strong foundation for learning.
On September 11, 2012, NHCS parents are required to attend a presentation that will explain classical schooling and tiered instruction in detail. Feel free to invite grandparents, friends, family members, and anyone else who may like to learn more about NHCS. The public is invited to attend. Contact the school to make a reservation before August 21 by emailing Nikki Eagle at neagle@northhillschristian.com. We recommend that parents read more information about Christian schooling on our website at xxxx prior to the meeting and consider reading xxxx, available at for xxx$
Several new and rigorous AP classes have been added to the high school program. Every high school student is issued a tablet PC to aid with technologically advanced learning.
Several facility renovations and improvements were completed over the summer; even more are planned in the near future as part of the school's master building plan.
