Improving Diversity in STEM
CaSE has welcomed the launch of the Equality Challenge Unit's Race Equality Charter Mark national trial.

Last month CaSE published its new report, Improving Diversity in STEM, bringing together data and research from the last five years to build a picture of the current state of diversity in STEM, from education to the workforce.

One of the key recommendations from the report was that universities should proactively engage with the Race Equality Charter Mark, and we are pleased to see this recommendation broadly adopted.

Also on diversity in STEM, CaSE has recently published two guest blogs on the subject:
  • Dr Pat Morton, from the Women in SET team (WiSET) at Sheffield Hallam University, on overcoming the barriers for under-represented groups in STEM.
Your Input - Scientific Evidence in Policy-Making
On June 27th CaSE will be bringing together key individuals from across government, parliament and the scientific community to discuss the use of scientific evidence in policy-making.

Ahead of this high-level roundtable, we would very much like to gather the views, experiences and questions of our members on the use of scientific evidence in policy-making.

Please use this survey - responding to as few or as many questions as are relevant to you. Alternatively we would be happy to receive an email response or to arrange a call to discuss this further. Please get in touch if you have any further queries.

Please send any responses by the 20th June.

Economic Significance of the UK Science Base
A new independent report for CaSE, showing that investing public money in science and engineering is beneficial for the economy, was highlighted during the Queen's Speech debate in the House of Lords this week.

The report, The Economic Significance of the UK Science Base, examines the economic impact of public investment in the UK science base, and was raised by Baroness Sharp during her speech on innovation.

CaSE, in conjunction with the funders of the report produced a two page briefing note for policy makers that accompanies the report.
Vacancy: Part-time paid internship (3 month contract)
CaSE is looking for someone to support our team on a fixed, short-term contract as a paid intern.

The successful candidate will provide vital administration and communications support during an exciting and busy period for CaSE as we prepare for the 2015 General Election.

Please email CaSE at [email protected] if you have any questions. Information on how to apply is provided here. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 29th June.
Nesta Event on Innovation and Technology - 16th June
CaSE Director Dr Sarah Main will be on a panel with the Science Minister David Willetts this Monday 16th June to discuss the implications of Nesta's new report into UK public opinions on innovation.

The event takes place in the morning, 8.30-10am, and free tickets are still available here if you would like to attend.
