CaSE welcomes Chancellor's commitment to science

This week has seen positive signals from the Chancellor George Osborne, regarding his intentions to make investment in science a priority in the forthcoming spending review.

While welcoming these indicators, CaSE has urged the Chancellor to provide a real terms increase in the science budget and not to satisfy himself with 'protecting' the science budget with a continued freeze.

This message was echoed by the Chair of the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee, Lord Krebs, in a letter to the Chancellor this week.
CaSE engages media with science for growth

CaSE and the Science Media Centre organised a media briefing event this week on the economic importance of science and engineering, ahead of the forthcoming Spending Review.

The event, hosted by the Wellcome Trust, brought together leading figures from across the community, including the President of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences, to make the case for investment in science and engineering as the central driver for Britain's economic recovery.

A comprehensive summary of the event was covered by BBC News.
