CaSE appoints new Director
CaSE is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Sarah Main as its new Director.

A former molecular biologist, Sarah has been working at the Medical Research Council since 2010 on a number of strategic policy projects and has first-hand experience of central government policy making. She has given a short interview with Research Fortnight on her new role.

Sarah will take up the position on 3rd June. She replaces Imran Khan, who has become CEO of the British Science Association.

Academies call on government to support research
The Presidents of the four UK National Academies have called on the Government to guarantee a stable investment framework for research and innovation over the next ten years.

CaSE supports this call. We recently published an updated paper - Public Funding of UK Science and Engineering (March 2013) - urging the Government to develop a long-term and sustained funding strategy.
Education Policy
Acting Director Beck Smith will give a presentation at the Education Policy Lunchbox on May 13th to discuss with the sector, CaSE's work in developing a manifesto for STEM education.

Policy Lunchbox is a joint initiative between the Biochemical Society, the British Ecological Society and the Society for Experimental Biology. You can register to attend here.
