All Souls News and Events
If you would like to put an announcement in the newsletter, please type up announcements with a few (3-5) sentences that include ALL necessary information and send to Jill Branson in
the office at jill@allsoulsknoxville.com. THIS Sunday, October 11, we will not be meeting in the Square Room. Our Anniversary celebration will be held in Caswell Park from 5 - 8 pm. We will begin with an abbreviated worship service that will include baptisms, followed by a catered dinner from Buddy's BBQ. Please remember to bring chairs and/or a blanket to sit on. We need around 15-18 volunteers to assist with greeting and/or directing guests, picking up trash, setting up our sound equipment, etc. Please email jill@allsoulsknoxville.com to help. At our birthday celebration, we also celebrate those who have invited Christ to live in them and through them, and are following Christ's example of baptism. Jesus commands his disciples to baptize in Matthew 28:18-20 and we read that the early church baptized believers upon their conversion in Acts 2:38. If you want to talk more with Doug about this sacrament and/or being baptized at this event, contact him at doug@allsoulsknoxville.com.

Potluck Brunch for all musicians, writers, visual artists, dancers, theatre artists, designers, architects, and all tinkerers and dabblers of artistic media, Saturday, October 17, 10 am to noon, at the Johnsons' home in Parkridge, 1640 Jefferson Ave. Bring a breakfast bread, fruit, meat, or egg dish. Drinks provided. Last-minute guests are welcome, but for planning purposes, an RSVP by Sunday, October 11 would be really helpful (travetta@msn.com, 368-5778). A number of you have expressed a desire to come together to meet each other and to explore what artistic needs or potential initiatives might be common among us, and discuss how those interests might be best served. At the very least, we'll just have a good time of connecting and developing a database of contact information. Teens are welcome too! Childcare (limited space) will be provided for ages 1 through young 5's if you reserve your spot by October 11. Babies and supervised older children are welcome to stay with us for the brunch. If you have a childcare option elsewhere, please save the limited space for those who do not. The Worldplayers will be performing a staged reading of Pilgrim's Progress set to music by Ted Nichols on Monday, October 26, at 7:30 pm in the Square Room. Noelle Harb will be singing in this cool adaption to a beloved classic!

"Many Forms of Prayer" Fall Retreat: Saturday, October 10, 9 am to 3 pm, 8420 Nubbin Ridge Rd., 37923. Hear God's invitation to "be still and know that I am God." Sometimes our prayer lives are vibrant and life-giving; at other times, they can feel stagnant and dull. Fortunately there are many varied ways of talking and listening to God. We will explore several ways at this retreat, along with brief times of group sharing and worship. However, most of the day is reserved for you to spend alone in directed meditation and prayer, walking and feasting in the beauty of autumn.

Bill Lee Slab! Workshop, Saturday, October 10, Mighty Mud, 1300 McCalla Ave., 37915, 10 -11:30 am, lunch break, then 1 - 3:30 pm. Cost is $50. We will work with both thick and thin, soft and firmer clay. Each participant will make a spiral vase, bowl and handled platter. Bill is a professional potter and you see his work each week when you take wine from the goblets during Eucharist.
