| | Meghan Francis at the opening of the Hive last week | September 13th is our 10-to-the-City congregational meeting after church. For those new to All Souls, 10-to-the-City is the program in which our church tithes 10% of our annual budget to local community partners. Those community partners are chosen by you - members of All Souls. The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes, and the service itself will be shorter than usual. Parents, we really desire your participation in this conversation. Our childcare volunteers will be staying an extra 30 minutes and will plan for you to pick up your children at the conclusion of the meeting, instead of before Eucharist. To prepare for this meeting, we ask that All Souls members prayerfully consider which community service organizations seek the peace of Knoxville through their work in the following categories (organized around the elements of God's vision of a perfect city set forth in Isaiah 65:17-25): Youth, Families, and Education (Isaiah 65:23) Leadership Development (Isaiah 65:17-25) Housing and Care for the Homeless (Isaiah 65:21) Justice, Reconciliation, Response to Crisis (Isaiah 65:25) Public Celebrations, the Arts, Hospitality (Isaiah 65:18-19) Food (Isaiah 65:22) Spiritual Renewal (Isaiah 65:24) Economic Self-Sufficiency and Jobs (Isaiah 65:22-23) At this meeting, each of these categories will have a designated space in the Square Room. Church members will have two blocks of 15 minutes each to go to the top 2 categories that most closely meet their interests and give input into which community partners working in those areas they feel we should support. On Friday, September 18, at 7 pm, Meghan Davis is hosting an All Souls' Community Potluck. If you are thirsty to connect, but perhaps lack opportunity, this is a wonderful opportunity to come and eat, hang by the fire, and enjoy one another's company. Please bring food to share. The address is 1515 Ashland Springs Way, 37922. Members of the ST must be members of the church who are at least age 21 and believe fully in the doctrines in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed. They should also be: mature in the faith, knowledgeable in Scripture and doctrine, hospitable, self-controlled, holy, upright, and a firm believer in and follower of Jesus. They must also be able and willing to attend one ST meeting each month for a three-year term. There are no term limits. PLEASE DO NOT DELAY, AS NOMINATIONS ARE DUE BY MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28. After-Church Discussion Group for college students and adults: Join us on September 20 after the service for snacks, casual conversation, and discussion as we explore opportunities to connect and build community. We will meet on the 3rd floor in the conference room. Contact gary@campusrenewal.org for more information.
Calling all sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses! All Souls is recruiting singers for an Advent Choir.
Rehearsals will be Thursday nights, 7-9 pm, from October 15 through December 10 at the Johnson's home, 1640 Jefferson, 37917. We will be offering ancient texts, tunes, and some old carols as worship on November 29 and December 13. You may opt to sing on one or both dates. We need to hear from you by September 30 so we can finalize plans.
If you need childcare during rehearsals, please let us know. We always have so much fun making music together; we hope you will join us! To sign up, or for more info, contact Becky Hancock at bupperoni@gmail.com or Travetta Johnson at travetta@msn.com or call 865-468-5778. Please forgive the broken link that was sent out the last two weeks for Dan Frye's great story on Danny Bullington, and read it here.

Emerald Youth Foundation is proud to host the national CEO of The Christian Community Development Association (CCDA), Noel Castellanos, for an event to introduce local leaders to church-based community development. This event, including a prayer breakfast and worship service, will be September 19 from 8:30 am - 11:30 am at Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church, 1620 N. Central Street. CCDA is a global network of Christians committed to engaging with people and communities in the process of transformation. For over 25 years, CCDA has inspired, trained and connected Christians who seek to bear witness to the kingdom of God by reclaiming and restoring under-resourced communities. CCDA walks alongside local practitioners and partners as they live out Christian community development by loving their neighbors. To RSVP, please visit www.ccda.org/events.
