Shepherding Team News

During their February meeting the Shepherds developed a framework for the issues to be addressed/work to be done in the months ahead, which are the following:

  • Shepherding our Body more effectively.
  • How do we be more hospitable/caring for those falling through the cracks?

  • How do we strengthen marriages and support our singles?

  • How do we encourage the Body to be in the Word?

Applying Consensual Orthodoxy to Non-Creedal Issues after Doug completes the current sermon series.

Designing 10-to-the-City Process - The process developed in 2011 served us well for three years.  It is time for a fresh start in determining the process of application of our tithe.

Long-Term Planning -
The Shepherding Team is committed to staying ahead of and addressing the significant issues, trends and shifts in the applications and approaches of our seeking the peace of the city. Additionally, staff continues the improvement of communication methods, and Dan Holbrook will lead a review of the by-laws later in the year.

Attention Fellow Artists at All Souls:

My name is Lisa Nelson, and I'm the drama teacher at West High, as well as a new member to All Souls. I have a dream/hope/vision of gathering together a group of artists who love teenagers and love the Lord and who work together to mentor kids through the arts. In this dream, I have adults mentoring costumers, set builders, painters, etc., teaching them both the art they are interested in and the heart of God along the way. If you are interested in talking further about this dream and/or helping with the set, please email me at lnelson.lisa@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you!

 Knoxville Community Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Young Life is looking for loving, flexible, faith-filled families to host carefully placed Amicus students! You don't have to be perfect, just willing. Your family has the opportunity to grow together and grow spiritually by investing in a student's life. Through Amicus you can impact not only the student, but have a ripple effect on many others in the student's community at home.

Since 1980, Amicus, Young Life's international student exchange program, has reached out to more than 1,000 students from 33 countries - more than 1,000 kids who will never be the same. Many of these teenagers, not knowing God upon arrival in the United States, have returned home as followers of Jesus and as the next generation of leaders reaching their communities for Christ.

If you are interested in hearing more about hosting a student, or about the AMICUS program itself, please contact Erin Housam-Umicevic at 865-804-1934 or at housamej@gmail.com.

This is an opportunity to find just the right place to use your time and talents to make a difference in Knoxville. The luncheon will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6900 Kingston Pike, 37919. A $5 donation for lunch is asked, payable at the door. Please RSVP to Gina: 251.1591 x2 or gina@compassioncoalition.org.

Dogwood Arts Art in Public Places

Art comes in all shapes and sizes. We invite you to experience some of the larger variety with Art in Public Places, an annual event featuring large-scale outdoor sculptures in Knoxville's downtown public spaces and also at McGhee Tyson Airport. These larger scale pieces are thought provoking and awe-inspiring.

By displaying these works outdoors, we celebrate not only the art of sculpture but Knoxville's natural beauty during this year-round outdoor exhibition.
