Lisa Nelson

Attention Fellow Artists at All Souls:

My name is Lisa Nelson, and I'm the drama teacher at West High, as well as a new member to All Souls. I have a dream/hope/vision of gathering together a group of artists who love teenagers and love the Lord and who work together to mentor kids through the arts. In this dream, I have adults mentoring costumers, set builders, painters, etc., teaching them both the art they are interested in and the heart of God along the way. So that's the long-term hope.

In the much more short term, we are mounting "Guys and Dolls", which opens Feb. 19.  The sets will be finished this week, and we have a TON of painting to do. My hope is to gather together 3-5 artists who can come next Saturday, Feb. 7th, from 9 am - 4pm and help students on the painting crew knock out an NYC Times Square scene, a Havana nightclub, and some palm trees on the street in Havana. Please let me know if you can help on Saturday for the Painting Day, or some other time this week. Our Stage Tech class meets this week on Mon., Wed., and Fri. from 8:30-10:00 am, so that's a good time for helpers, too, if that works better with your schedule. Thanks. If you are interested in talking further about this dream and/or helping with the set, please email me at lnelson.lisa@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you!

Community Thank You Notes received for small group grant and 10-to-the-City monies:

From Greg Greer VP-Programs, Knox Area Rescue Ministries:

"I wanted to thank your church for your generous support of our ministry efforts at KARM, specifically as it relates to Launch Point. It is critically important that we have partner churches that see us as an extension of their ministry. We are very grateful for your partnership!"

From Khann Chov, Farm Manager Beardsley Farm

"Dear Friends at All Souls Church, THANK YOU very much for your generosity! We appreciate you community supporters like you so much, and we could not do our important work without supporters like you. Thank you again!  We hope to see you all at some of our events in the spring, and will make sure to send you information about our upcoming events."

From our own Susanne Hassell, Director Holy Paths

"Dear All Souls Church, We have witnessed God's love and grace demonstrated through Holy Paths this year. On behalf of the Holy Paths Board of Directors, thank you for your continued prayers and financial support. We are grateful for your donation that makes our ministry possible. Thank you for your generosity and partnership in the gospel."

Doug will be preaching at Overcoming Believers Church on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12:30 pm and he would love to have as many All Souls people there as possible. As we seek the peace of the city, we also seek connections with the larger body of Christ in Knoxville. This will hopefully allow us to build on the relationship started by Doug and Pastor Daryl Arnold, and to create an ongoing relationship between our churches. Overcoming Believers Church is at 211 Harriet Tubman Street.

The All Souls Medical Fund will be accepting applications for this quarter from now through February 15.  The fund helps members and people who regularly attend All Souls with medical, behavioral, and dental expenses not covered by insurance.  The updated policy is attached along with an application.  Questions and applications can be submitted to Brad Carter for this quarter at: bradcart@lycos.com. In addition to the application, be sure to include documentation of expenses/bills and what insurance has covered (Explanation of Benefits) if you have insurance.

 Knoxville Community Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Jacob Building, Chilhowee Park
3301 E. Magnolia Avenue

Remote Area Medical's mission is to stop pain and alleviate suffering.

RAM clinics offer free dental, vision, general medical, prevention, and educational services. RAM clinics are free, first come, first served events.

"Because He First Loved Us!" is a Valentine's Day Dinner and Dance for Single Parents and their families. While others may make plans to splurge on Valentine dinners, shows, and gifts, the focus will be on those who may not be able to experience the same but are just as deserving. See information below on ways you can help serve our modern day widows and orphans for a day of laughter, fun, dinner, and dancing.

This event will be hosted by Knoxville's Empowering Single Parent Network (KESPN) - a community of volunteers who host special events and celebrations for single parents and their families for a very affordable cost.

Volunteers are needed for table hosts, greeters, childcare, servers, cooks, decorators, photographers, DJ, and help with set-up and breakdown.

Donations are needed: Valentine arts and crafts, small stuffed animals, door prizes for the single parents who will be attending, and goodies to go in the Valentine's love bags (candy, cards of love, pens, encouraging artwork, picture frames, etc.) for each single parent family.

The cost of the event is $15.00 (per family), which includes a nice dinner, family photos with backdrop, and Valentine craft for each child. Please call 865-951-6651, or email Sherra sl.robinson92@gmail.com for more information.

A companion student K-12 curriculum has been developed and is available for teachers and students.

The exhibition begins at the workstation of Knoxville Glove Company employee Margaret Newcomb, who personally sewed more than 10,800,000 industrial gloves from 1953-2013. Visitors are invited to "clock in and out" using a time card and an authentic time clock and will enjoy more than 80 artifacts of iconic Tennessee products, from Jack Daniels to JFG coffee to an Alladdin/Stanley thermos to an employee-signed hood of a Volkswagen.
