If you would like to put an announcement in the newsletter, whether it's yours or an event that you'd like to share in the city (that takes place downtown), please type up announcements with a few (3-5) sentences that include ALL necessary information and send to Jill Branson in the office at jill@allsoulsknoxville.com.

Happy Anniversary, Doug and Sandi!

We are still planning on holding a Christmas Eve Service in the pavilion on Market Square at 5:00 pm., even though we may have light rain. We will send a church-wide email out at noon on Wednesday to verify that this event will transpire.

As we come to the close of the All Souls budget year, our revenue is currently projected to be about $30,000 less than what is needed to cover our operating budget. This is the result of adding needed nursery workers and a full-time office manager to our staff mid-year. As you prepare to do your year-end contributions, please prayerfully consider this situation and your gifts to All Souls.

UPDATE on our "Invited" Retreat - The deadline to register for the Invited retreat is Friday, January 2nd so please don't miss out on the chance to attend. From this point forward, due to space limitations, the remaining seats will be made available to All Souls members/attendees only. To sign up, visit www.invitedretreat.com. For those of you who have registered you will receive an email a few days prior to the retreat with all the details and information you need to know. If you have questions, please email jill@allsoulsknoxville.com.

ONE MORE CHILDREN'S HELPER NEEDED: We are in need of one more person for the 2- year-old class on the 5th Sundays in 2015. (There are three 5th Sundays from January - May). If you would be willing to volunteer those three times, please email Melanie Leach keepingheart@gmail.com.

We want you in the church directory!

The following link will take you to a questionnaire that will help the church office have updated contact information for you and your family. This is also the first step in having a current church directory that will be available for our members in 2015. PLEASE click here and take a few minutes to fill this out. If you have any questions, email jill@allsoulsknoxville.com.

Waiting: The Spiritual Discipline
Susanne Hassell shared a spiritual discipline useful for making us into the people of God: waiting. Waiting builds us up. During Advent, the church specifically celebrates waiting. We say, "Come Emmanuel (God-with-us)." We wait for Jesus Christ to be revealed in us in a new way. What is God birthing in you during Advent or other times of waiting?

 Knoxville Community Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Volunteer at The Love Kitchen over the Christmas Holidays
The Love Kitchen provides meals, clothing and emergency food packages to homebound, homeless, and unemployed persons. They work with local agencies to provide meals, secure used clothing, and donate services in the hope of promoting the self-sufficiency of those they serve. The organization has no paid staff; all donations go to those who need it most. Their ultimate goal is to provide nourishment for anyone who is hungry and to establish a community center to serve as a safe haven supporting area children and their families.

Volunteer Opportunity for Lawyers at KARM

Every other Thursday, local lawyers volunteer their time at KARM for the Homeless Experience Legal Protection (HELP) clinics between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. There is a volunteer manual to help you answer questions. Most of the time the people you serve just need some one to talk to about their experience. This Clinic is a joint effort of the University of Tennessee College of Law, Legal Aid of East Tennessee and the ABA, Section of Litigation. Volunteers are coordinated through Kelli Thompson at Baker, Donelson. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kelli at 549-7205. The clinic dates are on the KBA calendar.

UT Downtown Gallery: "Of A Feather" Dec 24 - Jan 15

Artists throughout history have found inspiration in the form of birds. Man imbued birds with mystical and religious meaning due to their fascinating ability to exist in two worlds - the earthly world, and the sky, or heavenly realm. Drawn primarily from the Ewing Gallery's permanent collection, Of a Feather features works from historic and contemporary artists who represent birds in a diverse assortment of styles. While some artists approach the bird as studies of simplified form others utilize strategies of space and distance to take a more poetic or analytical look at the economic and social issues attached to birds. Works range from hyperrealism to whimsical to abstract. Of a Feather will be on view at UT's Downtown Gallery through January 15, 2015. UT Downtown Gallery, 106 S. Gay St.
