Joe, June and Kelli Morelock

Our children's program is in need of volunteers to assist and/or teach in all classes, beginning in January.

The commitment would be one Sunday evening a month, and depending on your preference, might not be for the entire service. This is one need that can be met by everyone in the entire All Souls body, whether single or married, male or female, older or younger.

If you would like to serve our body in this way, please contact Melanie at keepingheart@gmail.com.

Join us every Sunday through Advent at 7 pm in the Chapel for a brief compline service.

Giving Thanks
Giving thanks is a key element to create hope and purpose in our lives. One cannot recognize the love of God in their own lives without gratitude.
Audio from Susanne Hassell.
Additional handouts for personal and small group exercises as well as a liturgy for groups.

Help Stock the Volunteer Ministry Holiday Store!
In seeking the peace of the city, many of our members have worked through Volunteer Ministry Center (
www.vmcinc.org ), and the church has given financial support through our tithing referred to as Ten-to-the-City.  Additionally this Christmas season we are providing an opportunity for individuals to donate items for the VMC Holiday Store, at which VMC clients "make purchases" with points that they have accrued through community service.  Please see a list of suggested items HERE , and we'll have a deposit box at the November 30 and December 7, 14, and 21 All Souls worship services.  Please contact Marie Alcorn, 865-679-3048 or marie.alcorn@yahoo.com for additional information.

Greetings from the Denlingers.  Karla and I are excited to be with All Souls Church this coming January.  Let me introduce ourselves.

I (Kent) serve as a pastor at Valley Springs Fellowship (VSF) in Warsaw, Indiana.  I have been a pastor at the church for the past 28 years.
What a ride!  As a church, we have sought to follow the wind of God's Spirit in becoming an authentic community of believers, a place that is safe so that together we might come to know our God and love one another.  VSF has been a place where I have "grown up" in my faith and as a pastor, and in the process have discovered a bit about what it means to help shape a people into the community of the broken and forgiven.  I love the church!  I love our church!

Karla and I have been married for 32 years and together we serve not only the people of VSF but also as spiritual directors for Dr. Larry Crabb's New Way Ministries, especially the Schools of Spiritual Direction.  We have two adult children, both married:

As we think about the upcoming retreat, we are curious about what God might want to do as we gather to consider what it means to live in oneness with our God and with each other.  It is so easy to settle for less than what God envisions. We trust that our time together might be a way of calling us "further up and further in" to the community of the Godhead and as a by-product, the community you have identified as All Souls Church.  This oneness for which we hunger is mysterious, a work of God's Spirit, but perhaps during that second weekend of January 2015 we might consider a few ideas that foster a cooperative environment conducive to His work.  Join us in praying to this end.  We look forward to meeting you.

ATTENTION ALL SOULS' FAMILY...

In an effort to ensure we have the most recent contact information for you, PLEASE click on the link below and take a few minutes to fill out our online questionnaire. This information will serve the following purposes: 1) it will allow the church to have an up-to-date database of our people, 2) it will provide necessary information to put together a church directory, 3) it will be a good resource for connecting people in the body, and 4) it will ensure we have accurate addresses for mailing the end-of-year giving statements. This should take

less than 10 minutes of your time. If you have any questions, email jill@allsoulsknoxville.com. https://docs.google.com/a/allsoulsknoxville.com/forms/d/1t2ZAlSndH542H8-S29WblDRRMCzSDDtM0ayMY1D7Qb8/viewform

Joy: An Irish Christmas with Keith and Kristyn Getty

Keith and Kristyn Getty will host a Christmas concert at the Tennessee Theatre on December 20. We sing a number of their songs in our services, such as In Christ Alone, Oh How Good, and Repentance (Father, We Have Sinned). They'll have more instruments on stage than we have on a Sunday night, so that's one difference you'll experience. They'll also have a 100 person choir, which has not worked well in the past when we've tried to fit that on our Square Room stage.

You can buy a ticket directly, but we can get a group discount if at least 10 of you want to attend. Email me if you're interested in the discount and I'll let you know if we can meet the minimum. -Jesse (jesse@allsoulsknoxville.com)

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Keepin' the Holiday Lights On ... All Year Long

The Volunteer Ministry Center works with individuals and families in crisis who are at risk of losing their housing to help them develop a plan to pay their utility bills and maintain their housing over the long term.  Last year, 3087 utility requests were made to VMC; however, only 593 of those requests could be fulfilled due to funding availability.  A gift of $25, $50, $75 or more will help someone keep their lights on.  Please mail your tax-deductible gift to Volunteer Ministry Center, P.O. Box 325, Knoxville, TN 37901 or make an online donation at

Unveiling of Tennessee Civil War Trails Marker on "Knoxville: A Divided City"on December 5th, noon to 1:30 pm

Old Knoxville Courthouse
300 Main Street , Knoxville TN
A new Tennessee Civil War Trails Marker to be unveiled on December 5 will focus on Knoxville as a bitterly divided city. Located at the Knox County Courthouse, the marker tells the story of the happenstance of simultaneous Union and Confederate rallies taking place in April 1861 only blocks apart on Gay Street. Knoxvillian Samuel Bell Palmer witnessed the rallies firsthand, and with amazing accuracy, sketched the scene from memory while a prisoner-of-war at Camp Douglas, Illinois. Those familiar with downtown will recognize several of the buildings, such as the Lamar House on the south end of Gay and the tower of the Catholic Church to the north. Participating in the dedication will be Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero. Representing the state is Tennessee State Historian Dr. Carroll Van West and Tennessee Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker.
