knoxvillecommunityCommunity Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Volunteer Opportunity with tnAchieves:

The mission of tnAchieves is to increase higher education opportunities for Tennessee high school students by providing last-dollar scholarships with mentor guidance.

Mentors are community volunteers who help students transition from high school to college. The college admissions and financial aid process can be intimidating and confusing, and the mentor is there to help eliminate some of the intimidation or confusion.

Mentors will meet their students in early December 2014 and will stay with these students through their first semester of college (until December 2015).

Mentor Expectations:

1. Attend January Team Meeting-Meet your mentees (1 Hour at your student's school)

2. Attend March Team Meeting (1 Hour at your student's school)

3. Check in via email/phone/text every other week to remind the student of deadlines

The Historic Parkridge Neighborhood will be hosting a Prohibition-Era Home Tour on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. This tour highlights homes of the early 20th century which were built and occupied during the temperance movements that eventually led to national prohibition. Learn about this history as you tour 6 open houses and 3 homes in the Park Place condominiums. The homes will span the era from 1907 until the end of prohibition in 1933, and are good examples of the ongoing revitalization of the neighborhood. In addition, a walking tour of 20 homes not open to the public will also be included. The walking tour will focus on the history of the homes and their former occupants. Tickets are $10 per person. Children under 12 are admitted for free. Parking is available at the Ashley Nicole Park, 620 Winona Street, 37917.

Drawing on the collections of the McClung Museum, the University of Tennessee Library's Special Collections, as well as private collections, this exhibit explores the fascinating intersection of art and science in the tradition of natural history illustration and features over fifty rare books, prints, and objects.

From 16th century imaginings of fantastical beasts, to the extremely accurate 19th illustrations of plants and animals, the works on view highlight how increasing access to travel, technology, and books, as well as the evolution of the field of science, changed how these artful illustrations were created and interpreted.
