Volunteer Opportunity with tnAchieves:
The mission of tnAchieves is to increase higher education opportunities for Tennessee high school students by providing last-dollar scholarships with mentor guidance.
Mentors are community volunteers that help students transition from high school to college. The college admissions and financial aid process can be intimidating and confusing, and the mentor is there to help eliminate some of the intimidation or confusion.
Mentors will receive their students in early December 2014 and will stay with these students through their first semester of college (until December 2015).
Mentor Expectations:
1. Attend January Team Meeting-Meet your mentees (1 Hour at your student's school)
2. Attend March Team Meeting (1 Hour at your student's school)
3. Check in via email/phone/text every other week to remind the student of deadlines

Pilgrim Walk by the Sea is hot off the press!
Susanne Hassell and her photographer son, Paul, have done it again! This second installment in the Pilgrim Walk series is another soul-stirring book for busy, modern "pilgrims." As a retreat leader and spiritual director, Susanne provides meditations, poetry, and scripture to help us listen for God speaking in fresh new ways. The book is a field guide for discovering the gifts nature has to offer. Whether walking with sand between your toes or just in your imagination, the words and photos help transport you to places of beauty and solitude. To view sample pages or order online: www.holypaths.org/pilgrimwalk. All proceeds go to Holy Paths, one of our 10-to-the-City ministries.
Check out Doug Banister's new article in Christianity Today, "Powers in the Hood." It takes more than good intentions to do urban ministry-it requires spiritual armor. Read the article online here.

Community Involvement
All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Artist Events in the City
Knoxville Museum of Art: This World Is Not My Home: Danny Lyon PhotographsThis exhibition of more than 50 photographs traces this influential street photographer's career from 1962 to the present. Lyon rode with a notorious Chicago biker gang, marched against segregation during the Civil Rights Movement, and spent hours inside the death-row "Walls Unit" of Texas' Huntsville Prison. His goal, he said, was "to destroy Life magazine" - to present powerful, real alternatives to the hollow pictures and stories permeating mass media in America. A special group of Lyon's photographs taken during his visit to Knoxville in 1967 will be featured in the KMA's presentation.
The Knoxville Museum of Art presents the Latino Art Exhibit in the Corridor Gallery through October 15, 2014. The select works of nine local Hispanic artists will be featured including works from June Crowe, Susana Esrequis, Astrid Galindo, Angel Luna, Cecilia Stella Martin, Rosalina Tipton, Irene Torrealba, Loren Velazquez, and Luis Velazquez. The exhibit captures the diversity in styles of Hispanic artists residing in East Tennessee and of those who support the mission of LoLa Hora Latina. | | Doug Banister |
