Annually at our birthday celebration, we also celebrate the life of Christ in those individuals who have made a decision to follow Christ's example of baptism. Jesus commands his disciples to baptize in Matthew 28:18-20 and we read that the early church baptized believers upon their conversion in Acts 2:38.  If you want to talk more with Doug about this sacrament and/or be baptized on October 5th, contact him at doug@allsoulsknoxville.com.

SHARE YOUR TWEET-SIZED STORY AT THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY

A New Pilgrim Walk by Susanne Hassell & Paul Hassell!!

Pilgrim Walk by the Sea is hot off the press!

Susanne Hassell and her photographer son, Paul, have done it again! This second installment in the Pilgrim Walk series is another soul-stirring book for busy, modern "pilgrims."  As a retreat leader and spiritual director, Susanne provides meditations, poetry, and scripture to help us listen for God speaking in fresh new ways. The book is a field guide for discovering the gifts nature has to offer.  Whether walking with sand between your toes or just in your imagination, the words and photos help transport you to places of beauty and solitude. To view sample pages or order online: www.holypaths.org/pilgrimwalk. All proceeds go to Holy Paths, one of our 10-to-the-City ministries. There will be a book signing at Cafe 4 on First Friday, 5-8pm, Oct. 3. Stop in and see us!

Check out Doug Banister's new article in Christianity Today, "Powers in the Hood." It takes more than good intentions to do urban ministry-it requires spiritual armor. Read the article online here.

Update from Mary Butler on her ankle surgery - "Here's what happened. Got to hospital, prepped for surgery. PA reviewed my info, looked at my foot, noticed a few bug bites around the incision area. She called my surgeon who came for a look. Doc said unhealed bites puts me at greater risk for infection. To be wise/cautious, she gave me antibiotic, sent me home! Ankle replacement is rescheduled for this Friday at 11am!" Thanks for all your prayers, encouragements, and love. Please don't stop! Please pray for Mary and click on the link if you would like to serve the Butlers by taking them a meal.

knoxvillecommunityCommunity Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love.  We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Knoxville Museum of Art: This World Is Not My Home: Danny Lyon Photographs
This exhibition of more than 50 photographs traces this influential street photographer's career from 1962 to the present. Lyon rode with a notorious Chicago biker gang, marched against segregation during the Civil Rights Movement, and spent hours inside the death-row "Walls Unit" of Texas' Huntsville Prison. His goal, he said, was "to destroy Life magazine" - to present powerful, real alternatives to the hollow pictures and stories permeating mass media in America. A special group of Lyon's photographs taken during his visit to Knoxville in 1967 will be featured in the KMA's presentation.
