Jesus commands his disciples to baptize in Matthew 28:18-20 and we read that the early church baptized believers upon their conversion in Acts 2:38. NEWS FROM THE SHEPHERDING TEAM
The Shepherding Team met on September 2 and approved the broad framework of a proposal developed by the Pastor, Office Manager, and several Shepherds and members of All Souls to bring Kent and Karla Denlinger to Knoxville on January 9-11, 2015. The Denlingers will conduct a weekend workshop/retreat based on Kent's manual entitled "The Seven Questions of Spiritual Theology" which is patterned on Larry Crabb's School of Spiritual Direction. This significant event would be open to anyone connected to All Souls. Mark your calendars and be looking for more details to come!
The Shepherding Team received an excellent update on the detailed process and timeline for the Nominations Committee work this Fall. At least three new Board members will be selected to replace Brad Carter, Joe Morelock and Laurens Tullock whose terms expire on December 31. The nominations will close on September 22, the slate will be announced to the Congregation on October 26, and the congregational vote will take place on November 23.

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Artist events in the City
The WordPlayers presents Steel Magnolias on Sept. 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 @7:30 & Sept. 21 & 28 @ 2:30 at Erin Presbyterian Church, 200 Lockett Rd., 37919. The play is alternately hilarious and touching-and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters.

The District Gallery is pleased to present Transformation: New Works by Gallery Artists, Old & New. Fall is an exciting time, a time of inspiring transformation, and in that spirit we are showcasing our newest collection of fine art created by veteran gallery artists as well as newcomers to The District Gallery.
Transformation includes new works by veteran artists Ashley Addair, Chad Airhart, Donna Conliffe, and Brad Robertson. New gallery artists represented in the show include Henry Callahan, Leslie Dyas, and Catherine Gibbs.
An opening reception will be held Friday, October 3 from 5-8 p.m. Come enjoy the paintings and meet the artists. The show is on display through October 31.

All Souls offers several classes for children during our Sunday evening service on the third floor. There is a nursery for babies under the age of one and two classes for 1 to 2-year olds that meets during the whole service on the third floor. Children between the ages of 3 and 11 stay for the first part of the service and then come upstairs for a time of Bible stories, songs and fun. The Soul Mammas: If you are a mom with a young baby interested in hanging out with other moms and their babies you should come meet with the Soul Mammas.
We meet Mondays at noon at varying locations. We talk about mom stuff, spiritual stuff, and have a desire to grow in prayer together. If you are a guy over 50 (or close to) and attend All Souls, we'd love for you to come to lunch with us on Fridays in the library at 4 Market Square on the 3rd Floor. Bring your own sack lunch. If you have a crying or rambunctious child, we now have audio in the prayer chapel that streams the service so you don't have to miss anything. Moms only if someone is nursing.
