Shepherding Team News: Shepherding Team is pleased to announce that All Souls Pastor Doug Banister was nominated and has been selected for the 2014-2015 class of Leadership Tennessee. The class includes 31 leaders from across Tennessee including Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, Memphis Mayor A. C. Wharton, President of AT&T Tennessee Joelle Phillips of Nashville, President of the Benwood Foundation Sarah Morgan from Chattanooga, and UT President Joe DiPietro. This is an outstanding honor and is also a tremendous learning opportunity for Doug. The Shepherding Team approved his acceptance of the nomination even though it will mean that he will miss six additional Sunday services during this one year.
Jill Branson has completed her training and as of July is now fully on board as the new Office Manager for All Souls. She is in charge of all things organizational for the Church and can be reached at jill@allsoulsknoxville.com or 865-660-3158.
Bruce Charles, our Treasurer, provided a mid-year update on the Church budget. As of the end of June, we are $12,024.59 ahead on projected revenue, and $7,374.15 better off (below projections) on expenses - a total of $19,398.74 ahead on the budget for the first six months of the year. However, at the July Shepherding Team meeting, we amended the annual budget for 2014 by increasing it by $23,501.32 to reflect the staffing changes that brought on an Office Manager in a lead staff role, and transitioned Katie Norrell to a consulting contract role for creative services, and communications support.

Community Involvement
All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love. We celebrate all the diverse ways our members follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.
Fall Retreat "Autumn: Season of Letting Go"
Saturday, September 13th - 9am-3pm
8420 Nubbin Ridge Rd.
Falling leaves show us that there must be a "letting go" to prepare space for new growth. God calls us to "die" that we might fully live. What outer clutter is holding you back? What inner worries, fears, busyness, or resentments are crowding out your joy?
There will be brief times of group sharing and worship but most of the day is spent alone in directed meditation and prayer, to "be still and know God." For more information or to register, see www.holypaths.org/retreats
Spiritual Direction Triads begin in September!
Groups of three meet every month for a year, helping serious disciples of Christ live into their best intentions. "During a circle of trust...we speak our own truth; we listen receptively to the truth of others; we ask each other honest, open questions instead of giving counsel; and we offer each other the healing and empowering gifts of silence and laughter." Parker Palmer, A Hidden Wholeness
Participants are often surprised at how the listening skills transfer into all their other relationships! If you are looking for "a safe place" to re-discover your true self, prayerfully consider joining us. For more information or to register, see: http://holypaths.org/spiritualdirection

Location: First Baptist Church of Knoxville, Trentham Hall 510 West Main Street, Knoxville, TN 37902 Date: September 16, 2014 Time: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cost: $6.00 for sandwich lunch buffet Parking: Trentham Hall Parking lot between Hill, Walnut and Locust streets RSVP: Vanessa Moore, vmoore@fbcknox.org Deadline to RSVP is September 9, 2014 About the Training Event The Tennessee Faith and Justice Alliance ("TFJA"), in conjunction with volunteer lawyers from the Knoxville Bar Association and Legal Aid of East Tennessee, will provide training to identify the need for legal assistance, including learning how to spot legal problems that affect the lives of their congregants and information on existing legal and social services resources in East Tennessee. This event is open to clergy and interested laity of all religious groups in the Knoxville area. The training will be the first TFJA event held in Knoxville. About the Tennessee Faith and Justice AllianceTFJA is a project of the Tennessee Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission. It is an alliance of faithbased groups in Tennessee who commit to providing legal resources to their congregations and communities. TFJA was created to align needs seen at the local house of worship level with possible legal resources that are nearby, perhaps even within the same congregation. The notion is to connect with people in need in a place they already go to seek help with a problem. That place is quite often their place of worship. Projects range from traditional free legal clinics, to community education projects, to networks of attorneys volunteering to meet the legal needs of local congregations
