If you would like to put an announcement in the newsletter, whether it's yours or an event that you'd like to share in the city (that takes place downtown), please type up announcements with a few (3-5) sentences that include ALL necessary information (including your contact) in an announcement that I can copy and paste into the newsletter and send to katie@allsoulsknoxville.com. Thanks so much.

Send me your birthdays please, and let me know if I missed someone's!

Happy 16th Michael Hoisington!! This is Michael on top of Caney Creek Falls in Alabama. He likes to hike and canoe. Michael is a big Ernest Hemingway fan...he's read Old Man and the Sea and is in the middle of The Sun Also Rises. He likes Hemingway's short, minimalist style of writing because it's more like human thought. He put in over 260 hours of volunteer work last year at the Knoxville Zoo. He is a rover, and helps people find the animals and educates them about zoo inhabitants. He has an adventurous spirit, a great sense of humor and a generous heart. Happy birthday, Michael!

Jeremiah Branson, where does one begin? Jeremiah turned 16 this year and is dominating the L&N STEM Academy as an upperclassman, which (other than driving) is the thing he's most excited about this year. Jeremiah is a passionate musician and went to KYSO summer string camp where he continued to study the violin and performed in a concert in front of family and friends. He is an ultimate frisbee champion, and plays on several teams. He served with Operation Backyard at Cedar Springs church and is active with our youth group. I met Jeremiah many years ago when he was at OBY and was so touched at how he was able to relate to the home owners while being so young, and he has always been a leader and a shepherd among his friends and colleagues. One of the funniest, coolest guys I know, who has a real desire to follow Jesus in courageous ways. Happy Birthday, Jeremiah!

knoxvillecommunityCommunity Involvement

All Souls does not take formal positions on doctrinal or ethical positions outside of the Creed. We do, however, support our people as they, under the authority of scripture, in prayer and through community, discern the way of Christ in our world. Following Augustine, we believe in essentials, unity, in non-essentials, charity and in all things love.  We celebrate all the diverse ways our members  follow Christ in the world, even when we disagree with one another. Announcements in the update reflect the many ways our people are serving God in our community. They do not reflect All Souls' endorsement of a particular issue, doctrinal position, or cause.

Danny Norman needs a lot of work.

HA! No really, Danny is one of my favorite guys and is a terrific teacher and pursues the Word ferociously in order to really understand and convey God's heart . He is part of a teaching team that explores the book of Exodus at Monday night prayer in the Chapel. Danny prays for people in ways that really recognize their humanity but still manage to challenge them to move into a deeper place with God. It is a powerful experience to see and be a part of. Danny has had a big year and married the lovely Megan Duncan, and we are thankful to be getting to know her as well. Happy Birthday, Danny Norman!

About the Training Event

The Tennessee Faith and Justice Alliance ("TFJA"), in conjunction with volunteer lawyers from the Knoxville Bar Association and Legal Aid of East Tennessee, will provide training to identify the need for legal assistance,

including learning how to spot legal problems that affect the lives of their congregants and information on existing legal and social services resources in East Tennessee. This event is open to clergy and interested laity of all religious groups in the Knoxville area. The training will be the first TFJA event held in Knoxville.

About the Tennessee Faith and Justice Alliance

TFJA is a project of the Tennessee Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission. It is an alliance of faithbased groups in Tennessee who commit to providing legal resources to their congregations and communities.

TFJA was created to align needs seen at the local house of worship level with possible legal resources that are nearby, perhaps even within the same congregation. The notion is to connect with people in need in a place

they already go to seek help with a problem. That place is quite often their place of worship. Projects range from traditional free legal clinics, to community education projects, to networks of attorneys volunteering to

meet the legal needs of local congregations.

Happy Birthday to this wildly talented and passionate soul. Madison studies dance several hours a day and uses it so powerfully to tell stories, to connect with others, to develop a conversation with God and to understand the world around her. Whether she is using her gift to explore the life of Anne Frank in a performance about World War II or to teach ballet to the tiniest little girls at All Souls, she consistently touches others with her compassion and creativity. Happy birthday to this special girl.

If you are a guy over 50 (or close to) and attend All Souls, we'd love for you to come to lunch with us at Fridays in the library at 4 Market Square on the 3rd Floor. Bring your own sack lunch. Email Doug at doug@allsoulsknoxville.com if you can come.
If you are a mom/dad with a crying or rambunctious child, we now have a TV in the prayer chapel that streams the service so you don't have to miss anything. If you are a dad, you can do the same as long as no one is nursing.

If you would like for the church to send you out with prayer during the worship service if you're moving or going on a mission trip contact Jesse at jesse@allsoulsknoxville.com.
