Holy Paths Prayer Retreat on Saturday, October 5, 9-3:00
8420 Nubbin Ridge Rd.  Thomas Merton said that "to be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us...it is never unresponsive, but constantly awakening to new wonder and praise." The retreat will include brief teachings on gratitude, but most of the day will be spent in quiet reflection and prayer.

Connie Mroz's talk on Camp Tennessee:WWII German POW Camps in Tennessee, Nov 17th at Pellissippi

When most Americans hear the words "WWII POW camp", they think of the horrendous concentration camps of Nazi Germany or they may think of Japanese internment camps along the west coast of the United States. Many Americans are unaware that from 1942-1946, nearly 500,000 German and Italian POWs were kept in POW camps throughout the United States.

This talk centers on the five POW camps in Tennessee: Camp Crossville in Crossville, Camp Forrest in Tullahoma, Camp Campbell in Clarksville, Camp Tyson in Paris and the Memphis Armed Services Supply Depot in Memphis. There were also smaller branch camps in Tellico Plains, Lawrenceburg and Nashville.

It's back!  After a brief summer hiatus, Singer/Songwriter night picks up again in the fall with a new attitude!  This 12-week series will include some of the area's best writing talent, as well as a few Showcase performances by national artists.

Beginning September 5th, we will run for 12 weeks, with ticketed Showcase Concerts on September 19th, October 24th, and November 21st.  All other dates will be open performance nights.  To sign up in advance, e-mail kenny@newcityresources.org.  We will have area writers to offer critiques and guidance to help you hone your craft and understand and discuss the writing process.  There will also be a $50 prize for best performance of the night, a $100 prize for best performance of the month, and a $250 price for best performance of the season (as well as studio time with a professional producer, and the opportunity to open for a show at The Square Room!).  Singer/Songwriter night is open to all ages, and sound and lighting are provided.  Just bring your instrument of choice (we do have a Yamaha grand piano available for use on stage) and a willingness to share your gift with others.
