Invitation to the Worship Design Team Meeting

I invite you to join our new Worship Design Team to discuss our services. It celebrates, shapes, and designs how liturgy, music, and art interplay with our busy lives to try to rejuvenate us toward love and good works. The discussions are both philosophical (what are we trying to achieve on a Sunday night?) and practical (is the temperature too low?). It's open to you if you would like to design sacred space.
This month, we meet on Wednesday, July 17, from 6:30-8:30pm in the 3rd floor Chapel at 4 Market Square. --Jesse (jesse@allsoulsknoxville.com)

Paul Hassell is again climbing Mount Rainier with Climb for Captives. Climb for Captives is a community of people who use the outdoors to raise awareness and support for the fight against human trafficking. They call it adventure philanthropy. They are climbing the mountain next weekend and have a goal of raising $52,800, which will provide 1 year of care for 44 girls
rescued from a life of slavery and exploitation. They are paying all of their expenses themselves. If you would like to support Paul and this mission and to learn more, click here.

Stephen Otis's Class Moves to Monday Nights

New Class on the Gospel of Mark, led by Stephen Otis, Starts June 24th!
When: Mondays, 6:00-8:00 pm (June 25th-September 10th)
What: The gospel of Mark is the announcement of the work and truth of Jesus Christ in response to the persecutions in Rome under the cruel dictatorship of Nero. Victory and authority over darkness (chaos) and hope in the eternal kingdom are readily present themes. The class will dive into the gospel of Mark through reading, study, lecture, dialogue, meditation and prayer. Come soak in the Word (healing) of God and learn about Jesus Christ through the reading of the Scripture in the common faith of brothers and sisters. Those who are spiritually seeking are also most welcome! It's gonna be a great time together of deep questioning, transformation and healing.

Mary Baldridge will be offering a course which will examine both pilgrimage and mysticism and will take the participant on a mystical and physical pilgrimage - body, soul, and spirit - toward a closer connection with God, through reading, walking, prayer and contemplation.
The pilgrimage component will consist of a virtual pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago.  Participants will be encouraged to walk daily (and intentionally) and to complete certain virtual "stages" of the Camino de Santiago by achieving certain distance goals.  By the end of the course, participants who have stayed on target will receive a virtual "Compostela" (certificate acknowledging that they have completed their virtual Camino). However, the journey does not stop with the physical because pilgrimage is not primarily a physical journey.  The pilgrim/mystic will also learn about mysticism, from its origins and history in Christianity to the methods that have been used by mystics to open themselves to connection with God.  The ultimate goal will be for participants to take a contemplative pilgrimage, through prayer and meditation, toward a closer connection with God and with the Holy Spirit that resides in him/her as a Christian.  Those who are interested should contact Mary at:
mbaldridge@cn.edu.
Dates:  every Thursday night, July 11-August 15, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Location: 4 Market Square on the 3rd floor (Room is to be Determined)
