 NEWS FROM THE SHEPHERDING TEAM

At the Shepherding Team March meeting, we continued our year-long discussion on what it means to be a Shepherd.  We brainstormed answers to the question of how do we build a stronger sense of community in All Souls - how do we welcome, nurture, and account for our "flock"?   We will prioritize our answers to that question at our next meeting and develop an implementation game plan on that aspect of our purpose.

We also began a discussion of what to do with excess funds over needed operational reserves. As we reported to you last month, we were blessed to finish last year with a small surplus and there is some sentiment that, consistent with the parable of the talents, we should put that surplus to work toward our mission of seeking the peace of the City.   However, we want to be very careful about making sure that it goes to the Lord's intended use - these are His resources and we are but the stewards. Therefore, we have committed to spend the next month in prayer before we even determine the process to decide the ultimate use.   We ask you to join us as we seek the Holy Spirit's guidance.

In terms of business items, we are very pleased to announce the hiring of a new Youth Director, Shawn Mauer, who will be introduced to the Church in one of the March services.   We approved the use of $2395 for the building of two custom wooden carts for the storage of our Worship Team's equipment. And, we approved a one month extension of the All Souls lease with 4 Market Square to allow time to finalize the new lease.

The complete minutes from the March Shepherding Team meeting which contain reports from all the areas of ministry are linked to this newsletter.

Ashley's line of Baby Portraiture
I'm hatching a new line of baby portraiture, learn more at ashleyaddair.etsy.com and help me spread the word. "I emailed her with the idea to create something personal for my sister and her wife, Carlyn. I was inspired by a piece that Ashley had created of her little one, Addair, months ago. We spoke for a bit about the little details that make up Soren and his personality, I emailed her a photograph, and off she went to work her magic. Not only was it so quick, but it was absolutely stunning. So perfect that at the first glance of the sample she emailed me, I immediately started crying. I never knew that someone could transfer a little person's spirit so perfectly to art. But she did."   -Cassandra Eldridge, client

Singer-Songwriter night launches Thursday, February 28 at 8pm in the Square Room at Cafe4 but goes every week!  While in ten years of booking New City Cafe we hosted a boat-load of regional and national artists, looking back now I think one of the most important things we ever did was cultivate a constructive community in which local singer-songwriters could consistently gather, perform, encourage, critique and--as relationships developed--even collaborate with each other.  With the Singer-Songwriter night in the Square Room now launching, I'm jazzed about what new thing may emerge as original song-craft is given an opportunity to grow in the chrysalis of intentional community.  I hope to see you there Thursday night--or any other Thursday night at 8pm starting the last day of February. Contact Kenny Woodhull for more info: kenny@newcityresources.org
