  NEWS FROM THE SHEPHERDING TEAM

The 2013 Shepherding Team for All Souls, which also serves as the Church's Board of Directors, met on January 15 to develop a work plan of major issues to address over the course of the year.   Those issues include:

  1. Clarifying the roles of the Shepherding Team - particularly on doctrinal and ministry issues - and stating those roles clearly in the All Souls bylaws.
  2. Determining how to build a stronger sense of community at All Souls.
  3. Determining how to encourage and empower more leadership.
  4. Determining how as a Church we ought to discern prophetic words.

We ask for your prayers and welcome your input on any of those issues, and will update you on the elements of the work plan each month. The members of the Shepherding Team this year are as follows:

 ALTAR TABLE HELPER NEEDED
Three helpers set up and tear down our altar table each month. We need a fourth to spread the responsibility around well. If you wanted to serve our body in this way, you would get to become familiar with the church seasons, colors, and proper candle arrangements as you serve for about 30 minutes before and after our services once each month. You do not need experience. The commitment lasts one year. Please email Jesse at jwatkins@rabbitwife.com or call 242-9636 if you feel interested.

Bill Lee is a Knoxville potter and clay artist and is looking for a studio space to live and run his pottery business. He is currently sharing a home in Fountain City with a elderly woman who needs to move her granddaughter in. A possible situation is renting a finished basement in someone's home, perhaps a couple needing to supplement their income. Ideally, the location would be near a bus route, due to transportation issues. His business is steadily growing with more opportunities, but needs some help to flourish. Contact him at billleeart@yahoo.com.

Do you have a car you can lend a family in need? Tammie and Glen Spidell's daughter Andrea was rear-ended on the interstate last week, totaling one of their cars. The Spidell's have three teenage children and have an immediate need for a car for a month or two while they sort out their options. Please contact Glen at gspidell@gmail.com or Tammie at spidellg@juno.com if you can help.

There will be a Super Bowl pizza party following Sunday Service, February 3rd. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Please bring a snack to share if you can.

Sarah Johnson, one of our new members
Did you know that more than 3 million people are enslaved in human trafficking and that it is one of the highest yielding organized crimes in the world--generating profits of $9 billion in the United States and $27.8 billion worldwide? For Lent, why not consider a small group focusing on the issue of stopping human trafficking? Beginning on February 6 through March 13 (excluding February 13), we will meet on Wednesday evenings at the home of Deb and Dan Scaperoth, which is about 1.5 miles from campus.  We will use Christine Caine's book and workbook called
"Undaunted: Daring to do What God Calls You to Do"  Caine began the A21(abolishing sex trafficking in the 21st century) ministry a few years ago and her organization has had some success in rescuing people and bringing some of the traffickers to justice. Here is a blurb about her book: "Christine shows how God rescued her from a life in which she was unnamed, unwanted and unqualified.  She overcame abuse, abandonment, fears and other challenges to go on a mission of adventure, fueled by faith and filled with love and courage...Christine offers life-transforming insights about how not only to overcome the trials, wrong turns, and often painful circumstances we all experience, but also how to grow from these experiences and be equipped and empowered to help others."  We will also look at excerpts from the Pulitizer prize winning book "Half the Sky"  by Nicholas Kristof and his wife, Sheryl Wudunn.  If you are interested, please email me (Deb) at dscapero@utk.edu.
