A Great Time at the Launchpoint Christmas Party at KARM (by Jane Bullington)

17 years ago, a group of folks from Valley Grove Baptist Church began a tradition of hosting a Christmas party for the men in the recovery program at KARM.  It was so well received; these men were struggling to put their lives back together, and to have special attention, special food, special gifts, and a night given over just for them was terrific.  The highlight of the night was---The 12 Days of Christmas (acted out by everyone in the room!) and the hand-selected gifts from personalized Wish Lists per man.   This night became very special to lots of us, and has continued over the years, even as folks left one church and "landed" in various churches around the city.  About 6 or 7 years ago, a Christ Covenant Bible study group joined in as part of the host team.

This year, the recovery program has changed to LaunchPoint, a 2 month program that takes committed folks off the street, teaches them life skills, introduces them to the social services network, and saturates their lives with Jesus and His Word.  This program serves both men and women.  The ultimate goal for each person is a job, an apartment, a life plan, 5-year goals, and a personal relationship with Jesus.  Folks from a variety of churches (All Souls, Christ Covenant, Sevier Heights, Valley Grove, Fellowship, and a few others) joined together to host this year's PARTY.  About 40 LaunchPoint folks (present/graduate) attended, along with KARM staff and about 30-40 of us.  The room was filled with laughter, conversation, food, drink, presents, carols,  and the ever-present rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas.  Before the gifts were handed out to each person, Danny Bullington gave a devotion, focusing on the steps of faith taken by Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the Wise Men on their personal journey with God .

The party was a total success; we were given many accolades for coming and serving, but this truly is CHRISTMAS for many of us.  A time to fellowship and worship with friends we already know and love, and friends we have yet to meet.  For us, THIS is what PEACE in the City looks like.

The 10 to the City info link wasn't working last week. Our apologies!! Here is a more current one. The results of the voting that took place after the service on November 18 in the 10 to the City process are linked.   Final budgeting decisions for how to use 10% of the All Souls budget (our "tithe" to the City) based on the results of the process will be made by the Shepherding Team before the end of the year.
