Holy Paths Advent Retreat Saturday, December 1, 2012

9:00am - 3:00pm

8420 Nubbin Ridge Rd, Knoxville, TN

Are you "too busy" in December for a retreat? It is during those times we most need to "come away and rest awhile." Consider God's invitation to you to "be still and know that I am God." Don't let Christ get lost in Christmas!

Advent is a time of waiting, of preparation for the coming of the Messiah. We are all called to wait for God on our faith journey. Why? How? We will explore the Gifts of Waiting:

Patience

Gratitude

Compassion

Humility

Trust in God

Loss of control

Living in the present

There will be times of worship with reflective Bible reading (lectio divina), music, fellowship and small group sharing, but most of the day is reserved for you to spend alone in directed meditation exploring "What does it mean that Jesus Emmanuel is 'with me'?" and "How can I wait for and experience Jesus' presence during Advent in practical ways?"

For more information or to register, please see www.holypaths.org.

cityCITY EVENTS

Make sure you get this month's Amplifier.

The Amplifier exists to give voice and economic opportunity to those living beyond the margins of our community and to address the social issues that affect them.

The Amplifier is Knoxville's first street paper.  The Amplifier will be available for $1 from vendors stationed through the city and can be found daily at the following locations: downtown on Gay Street and on Market Square; in the Old City at Central and Jackson; and on campus at Cumberland and Seventeenth and other locations to be determined.

The Amplifier features articles, poems and artwork primarily written or produced by local homeless and transient persons and distributed by homeless vendors. Street paper publications build a bridge between the very poor and the wider public by helping people to understand the issues and the personal stories of those on the lowest rung of the economic ladder. Accordingly, the paper will not only provide personal stories and tales by those among us who find themselves homeless, but will also explore social justice issues, local politics related to homelessness and poverty in detail by local, national and international columnists.

United Pursuit Band

On November 29th at 7pm at the Bijou Theatre the United Pursuit Family is coming together for a worship concert in Knoxville, TN to celebrate the release of Will Reagan's new studio record "Endless Years." The UP community is ecstatic about the new chapter that is unfolding with the release of this new material and can't wait to share it. This night will be a full on worship experience as the band does first time performances of all the new material from the record as well as new renditions of old tunes. This record, which has been a year in the making, is a combination of many songs Will and UP have done for years but never recorded as well as brand new material. With this show Will hopes to use new forms of creativity and the experiences of the past four years with United Pursuit to deliver a worship experience that will be accessible, alive and explosive. Will states, "for this show we really hope to revisit and remember what God has done in our songs and family up till now as well as open the door to a new chapter of the story. I cannot wait to gather together again three years after our last cd release show and do it again! Joining Will onstage will be other United Pursuit artists Brock Human, Michael Ketterer, Jake Leboeuf and Brandon Hampton, and of course Will's wife Andrea Marie. The UP family cannot wait to share whats on their hearts and welcome any and all to share this experience. Buy Tickets here.
