If you know someone who meets these requirements, talk to them and see if they would be willing and able to serve. 10 to the City - September 16th we began the brainstorming process to determine how to use 10% if our All Souls budget to make the greatest differences in seeking the peace of the city of Knoxville. There were many great ideas about directions we could go with the tithing money. Check out the responses here. There will be a meeting after church on October 21 to refine the options, and a meeting on November 18 to vote on the options. Thanks for your participation!

The SHAREhouse (David & Travetta Johnson's new Parkridge arts venue) is hosting DON CHAFFER in a house show Friday night, Oct. 5th at 7:00 pm.  At All Souls we worship with several of his songs!  Don Chaffer is a Nashville-based songwriter, producer, artist, and founder of the band Waterdeep. Don is playing an intimate concert en route to NYC for the debut of his first musical, "Son Of A Gun." Joshua & Amelia (Johnson) Peterson, are the artistic directors of Firebone Theatre, which is producing Don's musical this fall. (Amelia is the daughter of SHAREhouse owners, David & Travetta Johnson.)

This concert will feature songs from throughout Don's long career as well as songs from "Son of a Gun." Don will be accompanied by drummer/percussionist Billy Brimblecom (also a member of the cast of the musical!). They will perform a mix of acoustic folk rock, poetry, and storytelling.  Given Don's large fan-base and the intimate nature of this venue, this show is likely to sell out. So, be sure to reserve your seat in advance here.

Suggested donation for admission at the door is $10 (100% of all revenue goes to our guest musician).  1640 Jefferson Ave.  37917

"Be very careful never to forget what you have seen the Lord

Emily Hall and Andrew

We hear God's command, but how do we begin?  Susanne Hassell will provide guided meditations to assist you in remembering and telling your story.

The day will offer times for solitude and listening to God in nature, times of worship and sharing, and times for rest and reflection. For more information or to register, see www.holypaths.org.

Make sure you are connecting with All Souls through online communication:

 - Twitter - We have two twitter accounts that we update regularly. The All Souls Church twitter feed is for events and announcements within the community (births, reminders, bringing people a meal, congrats, etc) and The All Souls Contemplative feed is podcasts, quotes, song lyrics, images, events in the city that point to our relationship with God, the vision of All Souls, beauty, community, creativity and prayer. Not a Tweeter? Not a problem. Go to the homepage of the website and both feeds are displayed with the last 8 tweets, as well as links to the profiles if you don't have an account but still would like to see what's going on.

Calendar - We keep the All Souls calendar chocked full of events from our community and the city, from City Council meetings, to Emerald Youth opportunities, to special events in the church, as well as our normal schedule. The calendar is split up into five categories: All Souls prayer and worship (Green), Community events (Purple), City of Knoxville Public Meetings (Pink), Downtown Arts & Entertainment (Beige), and Social Justice Events (Orange). One on One Amachi Fundraising Event October 18th.

The Orangery Restaurant 5412 Kingston Pike, 37919. Special guest Cuonzo Martin. Go to KLF.org for tickets. People of faith mentoring children of promise!

Amachi is a Nigerian word meaning "Who knows but what God has brought us through this child?"

There are over 800 children in Knox County with one or both parents in prison. Statistically, without intervention these children of promise have a 70% chance of becoming incarcerated as adults. We've got to stop the cycle. Children with mentors do better in school, get along better with their families and are less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol than their peers. Having a mentor is great for any child, but for a child whose parents are locked up, it's a lifeline. A mentor shows the child by example that there is a better way. Mentors teach these children life skills that can literally save their lives.

Daylight is starting to wane, which means it must be time for Knox County Public Library's Movies on Market Square! On September 7, the 9th season of fido-friendly outdoor movies launches its fall line-up. Every Friday night from September 7-October 12 (7-10pm), the public and their beloved four-pawed companions are invited to a free, family movie presented by PetSafe. The public gets to pick the flicks. Voting for the 2012 movie series runs from August 8 - 27 at www.knoxlib.org/movies.

There are many more events in the city....check them out on our calendar here!
