Greetings!
Who's excited for the 2013 Road season!?!?!? Kinda makes you want to jump like James Brown, don't it?!!?
We kick off the season with the Frostbite Time Trial on Saturday, then feature of a month of great racing with our collegiate clubs. March is full with a great variety of events, including time trials, criteriums, road races and hill climbs to start your season right.
Did you know that BRAC and the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference (RMCCC) have created a Memorandum of Understanding that defines how our organizations interact, and how we can best work together to support and grow competitive cycling in Colorado? We are the only LA and collegiate conference in the country that work together so deliberately and so effectively - and we look forward to the continued success that this collaboration provides to athletes, events and host communities. You can read more about collegiate cycling and the RMCCC's Topher Hurley in this edition of the Colorado Racing News.
As we launch into the road season, a huge thank you goes to our staff, board, and tech committee for all the work that goes into creating a balanced, fun and challenging race calendar, points competition, and state championship schedule. And the biggest thank you goes to our Event Directors who work such long hours to create such fantastic race days.
If JB were still with us, he'd give a huge shout to all these great people. At BRAC, it's not just one 'Hardest Workin' Man in Show Business.' It's the hundreds of people who make bicycle racing a reality for all of us - it's about the Godfathers and Godmothers of Colorado Bike Racing.
See you at Frostbite!

Topher Hurley and the
Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference
Topher Hurley, who just successfully defended his Masters Thesis at Mines (Congrats!), is the Director for the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference (RMCCC).
The RMCCC has 17 member schools and was the only collegiate conference to experience growth in 2012. Topher sat down with Katie Macarelli (BRAC's media volunteer extraordinaire) to tell us about collegiate cycling and working with BRAC. Please follow this link to read about the conference, teamwork, collaboration, the occasional beer, and how a skinny kid from Idaho has helped grow cycling for all racers in Colorado.

Juniors Ride Free presented by Team Evergreen
We'd like to thank Team Evergreen for supporting the BRAC Juniors Ride Free program in 2013 with a $5,000 grant!
Juniors Ride Free is one of the keystones in our ability to support juniors and their families, and we are very happy to welcome Team Evergreen into this program. As our numbers grow, it's wonderful to see so much support from our cycling community. Team Evergreen also works to bring us the Bob Cook Memorial Mt Evans Hill Climb, which is now in its 48th year. Thank you TE!

Prestige Imports in Lakewood
A Company that Supports Cycling

Justin on Mt. Lemmon, Arizona, February 2013
We spoke with Justin Adis, whose day job is General Manager at Prestige Imports. Justin is passionate about our sport and has taken his company in a strong position in the Colorado cycling community.
1. How did you get involved in the Colorado cycling scene?
Justin: I'm your everyday weekend warrior. I love to clear my head on the bike and race in a dozen or so races per season. The demographic of the sport matches the Porsche and Audi demographic, so it was a natural fit. Most car dealers focus on golf, but, frankly, that sport isn't for me.
2. Favorite event/race of the season to sponsor or participate in:
Justin: We're very involved in the cycling community so it's tough to pin a favorite. We're involved with the Garmin pro team, Tom Danielson's T20 organization, the Colorado Women's Cycling Project and Naked Women's Racing, Team Evergreen as the official vehicle provider for the Triple Bypass and the Bob Cook Mt. Evans hill climb, the Vuelta a Salida, Triathlon Evergreen and our own team, the Prestige Imports/ZumXR Cycling Team. The most challenging race I've competed in is the Lotoja Classic, a 206 mile, sanctioned one day road race, from Logan, Utah to Jackson, Wyoming.
3. Your favorite local ride:
Justin: You can't beat Deer Creek/High Grade to Morrison and back to my house for approx 80 miles and lots of good climbing.
4. Your favorite beer:
Justin: Sorry to disappoint, but I don't drink... (Please note: Great Divide beer was indeed served at January's Cross Cup Party at Prestige Imports).
5. Was your first word, really "Porsche"?
Justin: This is true. I was almost born in the front seat of a Porsche and my mom was very upset with me when I said 'Porsche' instead of 'Mommy'.
6. Just how relieved were you when Prestige Imports survived hosting the End of Season CX Party?
Justin: Cross folk are crazy. It was a great night with lots of noise, energy, laughing, cheering, eating and drinking. I locked up at 10:30 that night and the smell of the showroom reminded me of college days with spilt beer and pizza. We did survive and will gladly host other events again in the future!

2013 BRAC Membership and New Stickers
Please note that we are not sending membership cards this year. In an effort to save money, paper, and confusion on race days, we are sending 2013 membership stickers to attach to the back of your USAC license. You only need to use your USAC license for registration - so be ready to show your sticker!
*** Timing Chips As mentioned in the previous edition of the Colorado Racing News, we have discontinued use of the timing system for 2013. We continue to own the hardware and software that were purchased, and are collecting chips for the potential future deployment of the system.
Please note that any future deployment will not involve a chip purchase by members, and will not involve any chip rental fee on race days.
Chips will be collected by your club and returned to BRAC for storage. Clubs will receive a complimentary entry to the State TT Championships for every ten chips they return. Chips can be returned at races this spring. Thank you all for your patience and commitment during the two years that we worked with our timing system. ***
Thanks for sharing this e-newsletter with your friends and family.
A HUGE Thank You to Katie Macarelli, who has been instrumental in the creation of this issue of the Colorado Racing News. |
