Greetings!
Happy February!
We've got a little bit of winter happening this week and it's kind of nice. It's a good time to mix it up, cross train, work on the core, play in the snow, maybe even play board games with the neighbors. This being Colorado, we have to take advantage of the nasty weather days, 'cause we have so many picture-perfect opportunities to be outside.
More than 125 Colorado racers made the journey to Cross Nationals, and brought home more than 35 podium placings!!! It takes a village to raise these kind of results - congratulations to everyone who contributed to these achievements - racers, mechanics, families, friends, and all the folks in the pits. For those who went to Madison and have comments that could help with the effort for Boulder CX 14, please email Mike at Valmont.
73 Colorado racers are currently in, around, or getting themselves to Cross Worlds in Louisville, KY, and our own Lynn Taylor is serving as a Judge for Worlds. Want to celebrate Cross Worlds and hang with a bunch of good dudes? Frites en Mayo Club is hosting a Worlds Live-feed TV Party at Wynkoop's Mercantile Room on Sunday at Noon.
Thanks all who were part of our Cross Cup Awards Party on January 19th. 200 partiers enjoyed our a super new venue in Prestige Imports, MC Larry Grossman, Basil Docs Pizza, Great Divide brews, veggies, cookies, and lots of fun giveaways. This party was created by a volunteer committee of Kim Nordquist from Racer X, Mike Beck from Routine Leg Works, and Katie Macarelli from The Cyclist-Lawyer. Here is a photo album from the Party. Thank you committee and all our dedicated volunteers for a wonderful evening! So much is happening in these first months of 2013! We have officials meetings, the National Hand Made Bicycle Show is in Denver, the first road event at Frostbite is only five weeks away, collegiate racing is ready to rock, KHMTT registration (by lottery for the most sought-after start times) opens this week, women's clubs are meeting for combo group rides, and we are launching the Colorado Track Cup. Look for the race designations for the 2013 Rocky Mtn Road Cup to keep your motivation up, think thoughts of the warmer days on the horizon, and please stay healthy and happy through the middle winter months. Chris *** We are incredibly pleased to launch the Colorado Track Cup in 2013, with a balanced calendar of events between the 7-11 Velodrome in Colorado Springs and the Boulder Valley Velodrome in Erie. Funding and support for this new program has come from the Colorado Velodrome Association, and with funding in place, we have contracted with Pat McDonough to serve as our Track Coordinator. Pat has a tremendous amount of track and cycling experience, including an Olympic medal. Zach Lee created a smashingly good logo, we have our awards, vests, and trophies in place, and we are building a comprehensive racing calendar and points competition for Colorado track racing. All fingers are crossed for the completion of the Erie track in April. A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in that amazing project. Track racing will start in May and go through August. Stay tuned for details on racing and training at the two venues - this is an exciting time for track racing in Colorado! ***

Cross of the North 2012. Photo by Mountain Moon Photography. Mike answered a couple of questions for this newsletter: 1. How many tins of RLW stuff do you have on hand at home for your personal use? Michael: I have roughly 4 tins of balm, 3 bottles of oil, plus assorted samples of stuff that didn't work. 2. Have you ever gotten punched for your embro being just too, too hot? Michael: To be honest, no one has ever complained about our product being too hot. But fisticuffs almost broke out when we wouldn't make it smell like bacon for a local cross team. 3. How heavy are those barriers at the Golden Lookout School cross course? Michael: They weigh more than me. 4. Your favorite method of cross-training for "the off-season": Michael: Coffee, lunges, and beer. 5. What was that kit you rocked at Cross of the North?!!?? Michael: Old 80s wool, in pink of course. The socks were the icing on the cake. ***

Welcome aboard Vic! *** 2013 BRAC Membership and New Stickers You might be thinking, "Hmmm. I really don't want to get up and get my wallet and/or search for my racing license. It's January and that's just plain silly." Please, please don't be that person who shows up to the first race of the season without a valid 2013 USAC license and BRAC membership. Yes, you can always get a one day license, but that $ cannot be applied to your annual license later. But most importantly, BRAC members get all sorts of perks and the warm, fuzzy happiness that fills your soul when you get your welcome letter in the mail, and know that you are part of Colorado's awesome cycling community! Please note that we are not sending membership cards this year. In an effort to save money, paper, and confusion on race days, we are sending 2013 membership stickers to attach to the back of your USAC license. You only need to use your USAC license for registration - so be ready to show your sticker!
*** The Plan for 2013, continued The BRAC Board of Directors has decided to discontinue use of our timing system for 2013. At the Annual Meeting of the Club Council, the Board was instructed to create a plan to redeploy our system in the manner that is commonly used by timing companies (in which the chip number is tied to registration and/or bib number, not to membership information). The situation changed dramatically over December and January, when Orion, the French company which makes the system, sold the distribution rights to its sport timing products to a Belgian company named Be Chronized, and we learned of their business model for the US and world markets. Contact with Be Chronized has been very positive, but with new pricing and no US support in place, the Board decided to shelve the system and use our resources in other ways to support Colorado racing. What to do with chips? Chips will be collected by your club and returned to BRAC for storage. Clubs will receive a complimentary entry to the State TT Championships for every ten chips they return. In addition, chips can be returned at races this spring. Thank you all for your patience and commitment to our sport during the two years that we worked with our timing system. ***
Thanks for sharing this e-newsletter with your friends and family.
