World Vets News

Massive flooding in Bosnia and Serbia has left millions of animals and people in a dire situation and in desperate need for help.  World Vets is deploying to the region to provide support for animals that have been impacted by this disaster.

Thousands of animals have died from the immediate impact of the floods, but many more livestock and companion animals require urgent assistance. Animals are often not the primary focus during massive disasters and World Vets is committed to bridging this gap and helping them during their greatest time of need.  We depend on your help to provide life saving support for these animals.

We currently are not recruiting volunteers for deployment.
World Vets Wins Prestigious Honor at the Country's Largest Philanthropic Awards Show
World Vets founder, Dr. Cathy King, and Co-founder Susan Paseman, accept award at Classy awards in San Diego, CA.

World Vets was recently selected as this years top Animal and Wildlife Welfare organization at the Classy Awards in San Diego, California. The award, given in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, recognizes the most significant achievements in the social sector worldwide. This year over 3600 nominees were evaluated during an intensive yearlong discovery process that sought to identify top organizations in eight social cause categories. The Awards Leadership Council, a 100-person board comprised of top leaders and cause experts from around the world, determined the winners. World Vets was notified in April that we had been selected as a top nominee and finalist in the running for the award. On May 3rd, at the red carpet awards show at the San Diego Civic Theater, we were announced as the winner.

"The Classy Awards brings together the best leaders in the social sector, says Elizabeth Gore, Entrepreneur-In-Residence at the United Nations Foundation. The collective work of these organizations helps advance the United Nations' humanitarian goals, and we are proud to honor these nominees."

"We are very honored to win this prestigious award," said Dr. Cathy King, CEO and Founder of World Vets. "Being recognized for the work that we do to help animals and improve veterinary care in resource poor areas of the world is a great validation for the nearly 4000 dedicated veterinary professionals who volunteer with our organization.

World Vets Brings Veterinary Services to the "End of the World"

A pet owner carries their cats to World Vets free spay/neuter clinic in Punta Gorda, Belize

Punta Gorda, often referred to as the "end of the world" by local inhabitants was the most recent location to benefit from World Vets assistance. As implied by its nickname, Punta Gorda, the southern most town in the country of Belize, feels very much disconnected, forgotten and lived a part from the rest of the country.

One of the major issues concerning animal welfare and health in the region relates to the inability of pet owners to pay for veterinary services. Consequently, the town has been experiencing an exponential growth in the small animal population, in addition to the number of roaming and feral animals.

To help improve the lives of animals at the "end of the world", World Vets carried out a small animal field service project in collaboration with the newly initiated local humane society.Together we provided, a very successful and first ever, large scale spay/neuter and animal health service campaign. What's more, all services were provided at no cost to local pet owners.

We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers, all of the local support received as well as Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual sponsorship of our animal welfare efforts.
