World Vets Latin America Veterinary Training Center: One Year Later

One year ago World Vets held a grand opening for its Latin America Veterinary Training Center in Granada, Nicaragua. Since its inauguration we have expanded into a bigger and better facility. We have also provided free surgical instruction and training to over 50 Nicaraguan veterinary students and veterinarians as well as performed more than 1000 surgical procedures at no cost for community animals. We now also employ three Nicaraguan veterinarians full time. We sincerely thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot for their continual support of this program. For more information and/or to stay updated on its activities visit the training centers website  and/or Facebook page.

Another program that now runs out of our training center facility is an International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program. This program is designed for veterinary, pre- veterinary and technician students who wish to gain clinical and practical experience as well as an immersion into international veterinary medicine.  Students receive instruction and participate in a wide variety of clinical and surgical activities as well as community outreach clinics. Both short and long term volunteer opportunities are also available for veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians as instructors. See pictures

Halters & Leads for Donkey Welfare Project
World Vets operates a Donkey Welfare Project in partnership with the Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals in Arusha, Tanzania. In 2013, two World Vets teams will be providing free veterinary care and treatments to donkeys in the area. One of the major health issues we see are wounds around the neck and head as a result of the ropes that are used to guide them. For our upcoming visits, we would very much like to provide halters and leads to be donated to local donkey owners.

If you wish to contribute to the welfare of donkeys in Arusha, please consider donating halters and/or leads. The halter and leads that we are looking to acquire can be found on World Vets Amazon Wishlist HERE
Project Spotlight: St. Eustatius
This year World Vets is continuing its assistance to the Department of Agriculture in St. Eustatius;  a small island located in the Netherland Antilles in the Caribbean. In 2012 World Vets sent a preliminary team to the island where they conducted a pilot project. The objective of their visit was to help the island contain its ever growing animal population. Our team provided castrations to both donkeys and small animals. They also visited the island`s livestock facilities to assess overall health and identify any prevalent ailments.

In 2013 World Vets will send two follow up teams. These teams will further contribute to the goal of  having an animal population that is sustainable for the island. One team will address small animal health and population and another to address livestock and the roaming donkey population. Both projects have volunteer opportunities available:
