Greetings!
It was quite a thrill yesterday morning to be surrounded by so many members of our school community for the announcement of the new CJ STEMM Center. Thanks to everyone who, either in person or in spirit, joined us in celebrating this momentous occasion at Chaminade Julienne.
While exciting, the construction is expected to create the need for some minor operational tweaks and changes. As such, we will be closing one of the Franklin Street entrances/exits (known as Exit 4) starting Friday, Jan. 11. This access point will become a construction entrance and will be closed to all other traffic. However, the remaining access doors along Franklin Street (Exits 5 and 6) will stay open for student drop-off and pick-up purposes. On Monday, Jan. 14th, we will begin the process of closing certain stairwells and hallways within the building. All safety procedures, including fire drill exit routes, are being updated to reflect these changes, and faculty will review the new procedures with students next week.
I plan to share more news in future issues of the CJ Parent Weekly, at our monthly Eagle Parent meeting and instantly via my new blog -- The Eagles' Nest -- as adjustments like these are made throughout the course of the second semester. Visit the blog at www.cjeagles.org/principals-blog and please do not hesitate to join in the conversation with any comments, questions or concerns you may have.
God bless,
John Marshall, Principal | email

Update from Student Body President Clare Geraghty '13 Hello all! As winter break ends and school picks back up, I'm sure everyone has been reminded of our busy schedules! Basketball season is now in full throttle as the gym is full of Eagles fans on many Tuesday and Friday nights! There are many things to look forward to as spring sports begin training, students pack up and March for Life in Washington DC, donate blood (if older than 16) in our annual drive, and attend the Parent Dances the first weekend of February! Catholic Schools week is also the last week of January, which always allows us to especially appreciate Chaminade Julienne. The second quarter is close to ending, so as freshman finish up the first 1/8th of their high school career, my fellow senior classmates and I enter the last 1/8th of our time here at CJ. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

End of First Semester
Wednesday, January 16
This year CJ is awarding credit at the end of each semester instead of the end of the year, meaning:
- A student's grade in each class at the end of the first semester will be added to his/her permanent transcript. Credit will be awarded for each class he/she is passing. The same applies for grades at the end of the second semester (June 7).
- A student's grade in every class will start over at the beginning of a new semester.
- If a student has a grade that is an F at the end of either of the semesters, he/she will need to attend summer school for that portion of the class.
With questions about these items, students should please consult with their guidance counselor.

Featured Facutly & Staff Member
Anna Duckro
Anna, a grad student at Wright State University, is excited to join the team in the guidance office as an intern for the remainder this school year and for 2013-14. She will be in the office every Monday and Wednesday to work with students on addressing learning styles and study skills.
Anna grew up in Dayton where she attended Immaculate Conception and Carroll High School. Upon graduating in 2006, she attended Ohio University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences with a minor in Psychology.
After college, Anna decided to serve in an AmeriCorps program that focused on college readiness and basic adult education. The experience, she said, helped her grow in many ways both professionally and personally. Along with solidifying her interest in pursuing a career in education, the program also helped Anna understand how college readiness skills -- such as proper study skill techniques -- can greatly impact a student's success.
At Wright State, Anna is currently working to earn a master's degree in School Counseling. When not at CJ or WSU, she enjoys reading, running, yoga and spending time with friends and family. She feels truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to learn from and work with the students, faculty and staff at CJ!
