Greetings!
Beginning this year students, faculty and staff will transition to using Google Apps for Education, which includes Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive.
All students have been issued and shown how to access their CJ Google Education account. Teachers are encouraging students to explore Google apps in their classes through the use of course calendars that contain dates of tests and major projects, and through the use of documents that allow for increased collaboration with other students and the instructor.
Another advantage to using Google tools such as documents (similar to Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (similar to Microsoft Excel), and presentations (similar to Microsoft PowerPoint) is that students are able to access, save and store their work remotely -- either at school or at any computer with an internet connection -- without needing to carry a flash drive or email things home.
Over the Thanksgiving break, CJ will begin converting "@cjeagles.org" email accounts to the Gmail system. Users' actual email addresses will not change; however, instead of accessing CJ email through Microsoft Office Outlook's Web Access client, email will be accessed by logging in at google.com. Due to the switch, access to email will be limited or non-existent during the holiday weekend November 23-25.
If you have questions or concerns about CJ's transition to Google, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Steve Fuchs, Director of the Academic Office
