April 30, 2014 - Welcome to another issue of "Independent Publishing Now" celebrating YOU, our members! Much of April, National Poetry Month, is dedicated to the celebration of literature, making it a particularly exciting month for IBPA. Literary-related observances include Library Week (1st week of the month), International Children's Book Day (April 2nd), and School Librarian Day (April 4th). Authors Henry James (April 15th) and Thornton Wilder (April 17th) as well as singers Billie Holiday (April 7th) and Ella Fitzgerald (April 25th) all have April birthdays. Kevin Gerard, the author behind the Conor and the Crossworlds and Diego's Dragon series served as a guest author and panelist at CONDOR, San Diego's longest running sci-fi/fantasy convention. Kevin sat in on numerous panels this year including, "Disney Domination: Good or Bad," "Fearing the Unseen," and "Indie, Traditional, or Hybrid - Which Publishing Choice is Best for You?" Kevin also moderated the "Marketing Your Book" panel. Check out the author's website for more info.
Upper West Side Philosophers, Inc. recently published author Waltraud Riegger-Krause's Health Is In Your Hands: Jin Shin Jyutsu- Practicing the Art of Self-Healing, an introduction to the foundations of Jin Shin Jyutsu that provides a variety of treatments for a range of conditions. The book comes with 51 flash-cards for hands-on Jin Shin Jyutsu application and has been selling 20-40 copies daily on Amazon. IBPA congratulates Upper West Side Philosophers on this success!
Author and editor Jodie Renner's writing guide, Fire up Your Fiction: An Editor's Guide to Writing Compelling Stories, has been recognized as a finalist by Foreword Reviews' Book of the Year Awards, which recognize indie authors and publishers whose groundbreaking work stands out from the crowd. Renner's book has also won a silver medal in the Florida Authors & Publishers President's Book Awards 2013, acquired an Honorable Mention in the Writer's Digest Self-Published E-Book Awards for 2013, and has been IndieReader Approved. Congrats Jodie!
Eschar Publications' author Vivian Owens recently read poetry and spoke about her books with 5th Grade students at Triangle Elementary School in Mount Dora, Florida during Black History Month. Owens' latest book, Parenting for Education: Revised Edition, received a Florida Publishers Award and a Mom's Choice Award. Congratulations Vivian!
