Greetings!
March 25, 2014 - Welcome to another issue of "Independent Publishing Now" celebrating YOU, our members! The marker of the beginning of spring for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, March calls for the celebration of Women's History as well as corned beef and cabbage-filled St. Patrick's Day. More specifically, March 25th is Tolkien Reading Day and Våffeldagen (Waffle Day) in Sweden as well as the birthday of music legends Aretha Franklin (1942) and Elton John (1947). Check out this video to listen to the Queen of Soul! ------
About this e-newsletter: Every month, IBPA brings to the book industry current news of our members' achievements through this monthly e-newsletter. In addition, you'll find here free resources that help independent publishers and self-published authors run their publishing ventures better and smarter.
If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf. And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime. If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you! |
IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings
Dr. Haki R. Madhubuti was one of three recipients of the 2014 Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award. The award celebrates authors who have given generously to other writers or to the broader literary community. Madhubuti's award was celebrated on March 11th in New York City at the Poets & Writers' annual dinner, In Celebration of Writers.
Jim Cheskawich's The Story of Rex of White Way won the Maxwell Award in New York City for Best Single Breed Book-Regular Category in the Dog Writers Association of America competition. This award adds to the book's collection of 2013 Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for global eLit and eBook awards. Visit Rex's website for more information.
Ripple Grove Press, a newly founded children's book publishing company, is gearing up for its first release, The Gentleman Bat. The company defines themselves as "...a place not too far from here, where imagination and wondrous stories begin." Visit Ripple Grove Press's website to find out more about the company.
After debuting Norbert: What Can Little Me Do? at the New England Children's Booksellers Advisory Council meeting, Polly Parker Press was invited to speak at public schools throughout Cambridge, MA by Porter Square Books, recipient of the James Patterson Grant. Polly Parker Press is the first publisher/author/illustrator to be invited to participate in this newly-founded tradition, an achievement that IBPA is honored to recognize!
Wednesday, March 5th was Linda Matthews' last day as acting Director of Chicago Review Press, Inc. and Independent Publishers Group.
