Greetings!

May 20, 2013 - Welcome to another issue of "Independent Publishing Now" celebrating YOU, our members!

Happy National New Friends, Old Friends, week! We enjoyed visiting with friends, old and new, recently at IBPA Publishing University in Chicago. If you couldn't make it, not to worry, we recorded everything (Mp3s and CDs) for you and took lots of photos, so it will be just like being there.

Last month, we let you know that Florrie Binford Kichler, our Executive Director is stepping down to retire. This month, we are proud to announce that Angela Bole, most recently Deputy Director of BISG, is coming on board as our new Executive Director. Welcome, Angela!

Since this is both Get Caught Reading Month and National Photo Month, please send us your photos of events, displays, authors-in-action or any other publishing-related pursuits! Thanks to everyone who added their info to our Featured Members area of the site so far. If you haven't already, add your company today. We want to show you off!

If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf.

And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime.  If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you!
IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings

Independent Malibu-based author, Kurt Kamm (MCM Publishing), recently won the 2012 Hackney Literary Award for his then manuscript, Hazardous Material, which is due to release in paperback on May 1st. Hazardous Material is Kamm's fourth novel in his popular firefighter mystery series. The Hackney Literary Award is a writing competition recognizing excellence in both poetry & fiction and is sponsored by the Cecil Hackney family of Birmingham, AL. First prize for fiction is $5000.

Lynelle Kerstine Woolley (Flower Girl World) is thrilled that Heidi Klum listed her picture book, Camellia the Fabulous Flower Girl, on her "I Love..." List on the Heidi Klum on AOL website. She calls the book, "a great bedtime read for the little ones!"

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) presented Edwards Brothers Malloy with its 2013 Business Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding paper recycling programs. Edwards Brothers Malloy's Jackson Road plant in Ann Arbor is a zero landfill facility and its other facilities use, reuse or recycle 97.5% of all incoming materials. Altogether, the company recycled about 25 million lbs of paper or 27,777 lbs per employee. Very impressive!

Karen Robertson's interactive book app, Treasure Kai and the Seven Cities of Gold, was awarded a QED (Quality Excellence and Design) medal by Digital Book World and was one of only 20 book apps to be awarded 5 Stars by Digital Storytime for 2012. Treasure Kai and the Seven Cities of Gold is unique in the way it integrates game play within the narrative to deliver an innovative, interactive story experience for kids," said Carisa Kluver of Digital Storytime. Congratulations!

Congratulations to all of the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award Finalists! See you in New York.
