Greetings!

March 19, 2013 - Welcome to another issue of "Independent Publishing Now" celebrating YOU, our members!

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's National Optimism Month y'all! And, the week of March 18-24 is National Act Happy Week. Not too much pressure, right? Well, the way to make happy hearts buoyant here at IBPA is really easy - tell us all about yourself!

As you know, the IBPA site is new and improved, but we need YOU to make it even better. The Featured Members area helps us - and everyone else - get to know you. So it would be a positive step to go there today, fill out the questionnaire and upload your happy face (or book cover art). Then we can all look at you (or your cover art) all day and smile while you rotate around the home page and other places on the site like a ray of sunshine.

Doesn't that sound uplifting? Now don't forget to send your photos of events, signings and happy-acting times while your out there whooping it up. We love to get them!

If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf.

And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime.  If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you!

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, and Sourcebooks announced the forthcoming addition of two Sesame Street books to Put Me In The Story, the innovative, personalized children's book iPad app and website launched by Sourcebooks in November. The beloved classic Elmo Loves You will be the first Sesame Street book to launch on the platform. Put Me In The Story takes nationally bestselling children's picture books by celebrated and award-winning authors, and integrates personalization - creating personalized books that make your child the star of treasured children's stories. Elmo Loves You is one of Sesame Workshop's bestselling children's books, and is being made available for the first time in personalized form.

Bright Ring Publishing (1985) donated 2000 books in the month of February to various education organizations serving Hispanic children, including East Coast Migrant Head Start and numerous Bellingham, Washington public schools. The books were part of a recent program where Bright Ring reached out to families of dual language. The title donated was the award-winning Mudworks Bilingual Edition (Spanish and English), part of the Bright Ideas for Learning series, written by Bring Ring Publishing founder, MaryAnn F Kohl.

This year, New Harbinger celebrates 40 years of publishing. Launched by psychologist Matthew McKay and writer Patrick Fanning in 1973, New Harbinger pioneered a style of self-help book that has become the standard of today. Fanning and McKay believed that the job of a self-help book was to teach readers skills they could use to significantly improve the quality of their lives. McKay and Fanning's writing partnership has yielded a dozen highly successful titles which established the model for New Harbinger books. The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook has sold more than 750,000 copies and is widely regarded as the definitive self-help resource for anxiety sufferers, and relied upon by thousands of professionals as an indispensable part of their practices. Congratulations!

During a gala event at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel and with a who's who of American dog writers in attendance, author Camilla Gray-Nelson received the evening's top honor when LIPSTICK AND THE LEASH: Dog Training a Woman's Way was named Best Book of 2012 by the Dog Writers Association

of America (DWAA). In addition to receiving the organization's top writing award, the book was also awarded the Maxwell Medallion for Best Training Book. The awards ceremony which many see as the "Oscars" of the dog world, coincided with activities leading up to the Westminster Dog Show held on February 10th, 2013.

Familius.com has launched an international film festival to promote, celebrate, and interpret family life around the world. The festival encourages amateur and professional filmmakers to submit a film that explores family life. The films are judged by the audience and the top ten finalists are presented to a panel of judges for the Grand Jury Award worth $1,000. An Audience Award is also provided worth $500. Films are accepted until March 31 and the festival will go live for viewing on April 1. Visit  www.familius.com/film-festival for more information.
