Greetings!

January 31, 2012 - Welcome to another issue of "Independent Publishing Now" celebrating YOU, our members!

Danke! Gracias! Merci! Grazie! Arigato! However you like to say it, January is National Thank You Month - a time to share your gratitude for the people, places and things that make you thankful.  So, we are just in time for a very special thank you message to our President, Florrie Binford Kichler, who, this month, announced her retirement after five years as our fearless, tireless leader.

The search is on for a new leader and you can take a look here to see the news release and job description.

Florrie, you have been a rock for our association and you are irreplaceable. Thank you for your dedication, support, enthusiasm, wisdom and love for independent publishing. We are forever grateful for you!

Where does your gratitude belong this first month of 2013? Let us know where your thank you's go and what's new and exciting with you so far. And, don't forget the pictures. Thank you!

If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf.

And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime.  If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you!
IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings

Diana Hunter of Consumer Press Diana Hunter (author of FoodSmart: Understanding Nutrition in the 21st Century and her latest book, Me, Myself & Food: Conquering The Struggle Against Overweight And Obesity Without Dieting) was recently inducted into the Broward College Hall of Distinction. She currently teaches courses based on her books at the college. Congratulations, Diana!

IBPA member Sandra Beckwith's book marketing expertise was recently recognized with a special display in Times Square, New York City. ProfNet, a unit of PRNewswire that publishes a newsletter that helps journalists find sources, asked Beckwith to do a December 4 Twitter chat on book marketing. The company promoted the event with signage on the Reuters Building in Times Square that featured a two-story head shot of Beckwith! Sandra said the best part was sending the picture to her mom. Chicago radio veteran and author James VanOsdol has been busy with his just-released title, We Appreciate Your Enthusiasm: the Oral History of Q101. More than more than 385 fans contributed to his Kickstarter.com project for his title and a former Q101 personality spent hundreds of hours over 16 months interviewing 75 fellow alums of the legendary station. Since then he has had favorable reviews and interviews in Time Out Chicago, Chicago Public Radio and Red Eye Newspaper and was the keynote speaker for the Chicago Library Unconference. His recent book release party at Challengers Comics and Conversation was a hit as well. Good going, James!

Paul Wainwright got the good news that his illustrated presentation, New England's Colonial Meetinghouses and their Impact on American Society, has now received approval from both the New Hampshire and Vermont Humanities Councils for financial support to bring this fascinating story to non-profit organizations within those states. The presentation is based around his title A Space for Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England. Photographs from the book are still being used as a traveling exhibition for museums and university galleries. Congratulations, Paul!

We've received so many great pictures and announcements that we spilled over to our Facebook page. Please click here for more Members in Action photos!
