We haven't been that ambitious, but we did recently meet with publishers from Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Holland, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Nigeria, The Netherlands, Norway, Polland, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Slovenia, Thailand, U.K., Ukraine and the U.S.A. representing member titles at the Frankfurt Book Fair. IBPA is headed to Chicago for the next Publishing University, April 26-27, 2013. Please save the date and join us for the fun! During Thanksgiving and every day, we are so very thankful for all of you - our amazing, smart, creative, brave, generous and always inspiring members. We celebrate you! If you've discovered a helpful site, found a better way of doing something or have a tip that will save other members time or money, please pass it along and we'll share it on your behalf. And, as always, if you have a question, remember to give us a call, anytime. If we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you! |
IBPA Member Highlights & Happenings
Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project has recently won three book awards: 2012 IndieReader Discovery Award for Biography, Kansas Notable Book Award 2011 - presented by the Kansas Center for the Book (State Library of Kansas) and the 2011 da Vinci Eye (Eric Hoffer Book Award for superior cover art.) In addition, the National Association of Social Workers, Vermont Chapter, presented the author, Jack Mayer, with the 2011 Public Citizen of the Year Award for writing this book and sharing the true story of Irena Sendler, who rescued 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto, but whose heroism was forgotten. Sixty years later, her extraordinary history was rescued by three teenage girls in Kansas, who began a history project about Irena Sendler and ended up elevating her to the status of Polish national hero! Check out this truly inspiring YouTube book trailer. Pinata Publishing of Jekyll Island, GA has sold the Japanese translation rights for its title, Hello, Goodbye, I Love You (by Pamela Bauer Mueller) to Sanyo Shuppan Publishing House in Tokyo. They hope the sequel, Aloha Crossing, will be next! Joe Bovino is excited that the paperback version his title, Field Guide to Chicks of the United States hit #1 on Amazon's Movers & Shaker's List last month! Maxim Magazine hosted the official book launch party in September at the XIV Summer Sessions nightclub in Hollywood, CA. Speaking of Amazon, Familius let us know that recently they had two top twenty books in Amazon's fatherhood category: Muddling Through: Perspectives of Parenting by Bil Lepp and Glad to Be Dad: A Call to Fatherhood by Tim Myers. Publishing veteran (and IBPA board member), Christopher Robbins, started the digital publishing company, based in Salt Lake City, earlier this year. Familus focuses exclusively on books for families, and markets its titles to specific core audiences through the Internet, social networking, and web videos in a community-based program. Woodland Press, LLC, and its CEO F. Keith Davis had close connections with the Emmy-nominated and record-breaking HISTORY channel miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, and its companion documentary, "America's Greatest Feud: The Hatfields and McCoys." During the development process, several Woodland Press feud-related titles, including The Tale of the Devil: The Biography of Devil Anse Hatfield, written by Dr. Coleman C. Hatfield, the great-grandson of the feud patriarch, and Robert Y. Spence; The Feuding Hatfields & McCoys, by Dr. Coleman C. Hatfield and F. Keith Davis; and a new novel, The Devil's Son: Cap Hatfield and the End of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud, by Anne Black Gray, were used as resource and historical background material for the HISTORY channel projects, which centered around the post-Civil War struggle between these West Virginia and Kentucky clans, that lasted decades and cost so many their lives. Additionally, the television projects included the extensive photograph collections of Davis and the Hatfield family. Seven Publishing's author, Eric DelaBarre, let us know that his distributor, Perseus, called to tell him they are officially sold out of his title, Saltwater Taffy. 5000 copies...POOF....gone into the hands of children, parents and teachers. He said that the plan was to slowly head into the 2nd printing, having 200 copies left in the warehouse. Then...after selling out at the Writer's Digest Conference store, coupled with an IBPA Library mailing, the 150 copies left were gone! Although a good problem to have, he has two school visits this next week and no stock to bring to the school. Can you say digital sales? Congratulations on your 2nd printing, Eric! We've received so many great pictures and announcements that we spilled over to our Facebook page. Please click here for more Members in Action photos! |
