Young voters are officially a force to be reckoned with - but what do they want from their elected officials? From now until December 15th, Mikva Challenge is asking middle and high school students across the nation to write letters to President Obama and/or Speaker Boehner. Submit your students' letters by December 15th and as the inauguration approaches, Mikva Challenge will send all letters together to both the White House and Congress. http://bit.ly/Wc0kvy

Everyday Young Heroes

Amy and Emma Bushman

Cincinnati, OH

YSA recognizes 11-year-old twins Amy and Emma Bushman of Cincinnati, Ohio, as Everyday Young Heroes for their passion and dedication to helping families in need through their non-profit, Bake Me Home.

After volunteering at a local homeless shelter, Amy and Emma decided to put their talents together to help these families and started a non-profit, Bake Me Home. The girls enjoyed baking at home and thought that with the right tools, the families moving out of the shelters would enjoy baking too, thus inspiring the creation of their organization. Bake Me Home provides tote bags full of cookie baking necessities as well as toothbrushes, toothpaste and a grocery store gift card to families moving out of the shelters. With the help of volunteers, Amy and Emma also began the Family Portrait Program, which provides a 5x7 frame and a family photo. Their organization serves ten shelters in the Greater Cincinnati area. Additionally, they expanded their non-profit with the Bake Me Back Home program in which they bake and send cookies to American troops overseas.  With all of their successes, Amy and Emma are invested in getting other youth involved in the community.  They expanded their non-profit with the Bake It Forward program to provide grants to children interested in starting their own service projects.  Together with their volunteers, Amy and Emma have served over 16,000 individuals!  Learn more at www.bakemehome.org

For their commitment and dedication to helping others and spreading the importance of community service, we honor Amy and Emma as Everyday Young Heroes.

Song of the WeeK

The Script - "Hall of Fame"

"When you're standing in the hall of fame
And the world's gonna know your name
Cause you burn with the brightest flame
And the world's gonna know your name
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame

Be students, be teachers;
Be politicians, be preachers.

Be believers, be leaders;
Be astronauts, be champions;
Be truth seekers..."
