Focus On: Gift Wrapping

The rush is on! You are running to the department store, the specialty store, and the kiosk at the mall while also checking on-line to find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list. But once you have picked out every last one, you are far from done. Those gifts still need to be wrapped which can be quite a daunting task. So, here's a present just for you - helpful tips on how to wrap those gifts with ease.
  • A Sticky Situation - Use a tape dispenser, with precut strips, that straps to your hand. It will make the process move more quickly and easily. Check out the Scotch brand Pop-Up Tape Handband Dispenser at staples.com. Glue dots from michaels.com are best for thick papers and those with metallic finishes that resist tape.
  • No Time Like the Present - To avoid a gift-wrapping nightmare the day before the holiday, wrap items as you purchase them. You can add ribbons, bows, and tags later. But make sure you label the presents with sticky notes so that you don't forget who gets what.

  • By Design - When it comes to multiple gifts for each family member, keep the presents organized by assigning each person in the family a specific wrapping paper design. This will ensure that you will know which packages are for which person. An added bonus is that this idea can also save you money on gift tags.

  • The Long Not The Short Of It - For those items that are long and thin that need to be disguised, use a mailing tube (tape two together for something really long, like a fishing pole.) Then stuff the tube with bubble wrap to keep the gift from moving around. The mailing tube is great for gifts such as baseball bats, golf clubs, yoga mats, umbrellas, rolling pins and even, shawls and scarves (they should be rolled-up to prevent wrinkles).

  • Celebrate All Year Round - To make gift-wrapping easier all year long, create a wrapping station using an umbrella stand or cylindrical hamper for the long rolls. Then put S-hooks on the lip for ribbons and scissors. You can also get the Gift Wrap Work Station from containerstore.com.
All you need now are the gifts and you'll be ready for all that wrapping. But, if the thought of wrapping all those presents ties you in knots, contact GoodDeeds.
