September is here so happy birthday to all you Virgos! Please read below for a list of fantastic things we love including a groundbreaking documentary film, a revolutionary dance company, and an amazing New Mexico radio station we visited over the summer! Also, check out some updates and interactive requests related to Amor Puro y Duro (Love Hard and Pure).

Enjoy this song as you read. It's called "Revolution Girls" by Mariachi El Bronx (a great tune mentioned on KUNM radio!).

We are thrilled to announce that Aubin Pictures has been chosen to participate in IFP's Independent Film Week 2015 held at NYC's Lincoln Center! Daresha and Cat will be there discussing Amor Puro y Duro (Love Hard and Pure), our story of the groundbreaking artist Chavela Vargas.

More good news: Visionary documentary filmmaker Lourdes Portillo has joined our project as a consulting producer!  Learn more about Lourdes and her work by clicking here!

Did you know that at age 14, Chavela abandoned her native Costa Rica for a musical career? She ventured north and began singing on the streets of Mexico City. To learn more about our project, and the inimitable icon that was Chavela Vargas, please visit our new website

We have been filming all summer and are excited about the progress. To the left you can see a couple behind-the-scene shots of our amazing crew, hard at work and having a blast in Santa Fe!

Do you love Chavela?

Chavela Vargas once said, "Love without measure, without limit, without complex, without permission, without courage, without counsel, without doubt, no price, no cure, no nothing. Do not be afraid to love, you will pour tears with or without love."

Do you love Chavela without measure? If so, please tell us how her music makes you feel. Share your memories, reflections, and stories on our Chavela blog! Folks are telling great stories, musing, listening and loving her sound and being. Check out the newest contributions for inspiration. Then share with us!

Send your draft to info[at] so we can all appreciate your vibrant and insightful contributions to our blog!

Quiroz plays Latin American and Chicano music of all eras on the Raices radio show. New Mexico locals can tune in to the Raices radio show every Monday from 7:30 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. and Saturday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Have a listen on the KUNM website!

Deep Run

Deep Run is a documentary film about trans life in rural North Carolina. The film features Cole Ray Davis, a young trans man, who uses his humor and all-inclusive Christian beliefs to counter the bigotry he faces every day.
