The Good Works of Your Gifts

Door County YMCA 2014-2015 Youth in Government Program

This program seeks to enable high school youth to better understand and experience the roles of leaders in government so that they themselves may develop as leaders. Students are given the opportunity to actively participate in the Wisconsin state government activities at Madison in February.

Money Management Counselors powered by FISC

This organization was able to provide six new educational presentations to 77 women and girls covering a variety of financial literary topics. From senior citizens on Washington Island to the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) organization, women and girls learned about money management basics, self-sufficiency, and intergenerational money issues.

We Are Hope

This program is working in collaboration with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to provide education to women with disabilities. Through job coaching, women will receive individual support and training to prepare them with the skills needed to find and retain employment.

Community Clinic Family Planning/Reproductive Health Program

One of the objectives of this program is to decrease the incidence of teen pregnancy and unintended pregnancy among young adults. The program also seeks to increase awareness of the risk of exposure to sexually transmitted infections and diseases, through the teaching of prevention strategies. In addition, patients are made aware of the risk of sexual assault and abuse, along with the role alcohol and drugs can play.

Tales of Our Lives 2015 an Enormous Success!

Earlier this month, on Thursday, March 5th, Tales of Our Lives 2015 went in to the books as an utter success!

With almost 160 guests in attendance for this second annual avant guard performance, our guests were treated to 7 powerful storytellers and two amazing singer-songwriters who shared their talents and bared their souls.

With the tag line, "Empowerment Through Performance," Tales of Our Lives works to unify our community and raise awareness for the Women's Fund through the telling of stories that range from heart wrenching to gut busting and back again.

The planning committee of Megan Lundahl, Trudy Herbst, Nikki Hedeen and Terry Lundahl would like to thank the many local businesses and volunteers who made this event not only possible but hugely successful.

Special thanks go out to The Fire Company for hosting us and the Door County Community Foundation for handling our reservations.

The show sold out just 2 weeks in to tickets being available!

We look forward to bringing Door County more events such as this in the future and The Women's Fund appreciates your continued support.

When she thrives, we all prosper!

Mind Trekkers Upcoming Fun

The Women's Fund of Door County and the Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership are collaborating together to promote STEM awareness and provide area youth with a SUPER FUN opportunity to experience STEM phenomena that they might not otherwise encounter.

Mark your calendars for April 10th and 11th as Michigan Technological University; Mind Trekkers (a traveling roadshow of sorts) comes to our region!  Described as a "carnival of science," the event focuses on STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Mind Trekkers gives students the opportunity to engage in over 100 hands-on activities that last between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. This event is fun for kids of all ages however; Mind Trekkers staff likes to focus on youth in grades 5-8.   Students can participate in experiments like racing floating Legos, walking on water, and eating ice cream made with liquid nitrogen.

Registered schools of 5-8th graders would attend the Friday sessions and the Saturday event would run from 9 am-3 pm and is completely open to the public.  The cost is free and ALL AGES WELCOME on Saturday!

Events like the Mind Trekkers road show are working to engage students in STEM-focused careers and education. According to a study of high school students performed by the Business-Higher Education Forum, only 17 percent of high school seniors were both proficient in math and interested in STEM fields, which is not sufficient to meet the U.S. workforce demand.
