| Greetings! |
Last year my wife finished the college degree that was disrupted by her marriage to me nearly 20 years ago. She wants to become a teacher so the shelves and desk in our bedroom are filled with books, educational materials and notes from her recently completed student teaching assignment.
As I sat down at the desk the other day I happened upon a list of expectations for elementary school students. These are the basic life lessons that students need to bring into the classroom for it to function properly. The list probably wouldn't surprise anyone:
- Listen before you speak
- Pay attention in class
- Respect your classmates
- Accept responsibility for your actions
- Don't spread rumors
- Don't hit people
- Say you're sorry if you hurt someone
There's nothing there that you wouldn't expect, but I will admit that seeing it all listed out surprised me. I was taken aback because I had seen this list before but in a completely different context. These expectations for elementary school kids almost exactly mirror the principles of the Oshkosh Civility Project as were presented at a recent public meeting hosted by the Door County League of Women Voters.
Read the rest of this story in the Peninsula Pulse.Hope you're enjoying this wonderful (but cool) spring in Door County.

Endowments in Action: Friends of Peninsula State Park
|
The Community Foundation is honored to administer the For Now and for the Future Fund, the Interpretive Nature Center Fund and the Peninsula State Park Research Grant Fund.
Friends of Peninsula State Park supports the Park's mission: to protect the natural and scenic resources of the park and to provide compatible forms of outdoor recreation and education.
Over one million people visit the 3,776-acre park each year. At least 14,000 participate in nature programs. FPSP has engaged in centennial activities (2009) and invasive species management. It has allocated matching grant funds for an open-air shelter at Nicolet Beach (2011-12 project), bought ski trail grooming equipment, and purchased archival supplies. FPSP manages merchandise sales, with proceeds primarily funding the wages of the summer naturalist and invasive species coordinator. Friends have also supported program presenters such as Bat Conservation of Wisconsin.
FPSP provides critical support for Peninsula State Park, a premier property within the Wisconsin State Park System and a gateway to other Door County heritage sites.
Please consider incorporating gift to any of the Friends of Peninsula State Park Funds in your estate plans. Speak with your attorney, accountant or other estate planning professional. Or contact the Community Foundation and we'd be glad to help facilitate your generosity.
Many charities entrust the administration of their endowment funds to the Community Foundation. It's a safe and responsible way to manage endowed gifts, long-term assets or operational reserves. The non-profit community also counts on the Community Foundation's planned giving expertise to facilitate gifts into their endowments. By aggregating these assets under the umbrella of the Community Foundation, economies of scale allow for a far more diversified investment portfolio and lower investment fees than any of the charities could achieve on their own.

| Guide to Endowments Available Online |
The Community Foundation is pleased to publish the Guide to Endowments at the Door County Community Foundation, Inc.
The Guide highlights different charities so families have options to consider when giving back - either today or through their estate plans. We encourage families to download their copy today!
The Guide is also an excellent tool for estate planning professionals when talking with their clients about Door County charities. We're happy to send attorneys, accountants, investment advisors, and trust officers a supply of Guides (and display holder) for use in their office. If you'd like a stack for your clients, contact us at the Community Foundation.
This is just another way the Community Foundation is encouraging people to give back to sustain the community we love!
