Responsibilities:
* Work closely with the Art Director and CG Supervisor to design and create effects that achieve the artistic vision of the film.
* Work with Associate Producer to estimate and maintain an effects schedule and budget for the film.
* Maintain and improve technical standards for the effects and simulation departments, implementing new tools as necessary.
* Lead shot specific problem solving, especially as it pertains to new or difficult visual effects.
* Responsible for working with the CG Supervisor and subcontractor on the technical approach of effects and simulations, including shading, lighting, rendering, and compositing of effects elements.
Qualifications
Required: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent work experience * 5 years of experience as a visual effects artist or effects technical director * Strong experience with Maya, RenderMan, and Houdini * Must have a strong portfolio with theatrical quality visual effects which includes fire, smoke, and water, with the ability to prototype reoccurring special effects * Must possess the ability to take direction well, work alone and/or collaboratively, multi-task projects, follow-through on assignments, and work under production deadline pressure * Strong communication skills required * Must be willing to travel
Desired: * Experience leading a team of artists, managing effects complexity and bidding shots * Experience with foliage, crowds, cloth, and hair is strongly recommended * Background in scripting, programming, and shader writing a big plus
