Motorcycle Awareness Month!

Spring is in full swing and around the country, motorcyclists are returning to the road after a long winter. But with a sudden spike in the number of motorcycles on the road, it's a good time to remind all motorists, whether on two wheels or four, to keep a special lookout for motorcyclists.

That's why May is recognized as National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, a time for drivers to be reminded to share the road with motorcycles, and riders to be reminded to make themselves more visible to others.

Most motorcyclists are fully aware of the risks they undertake when riding, but a look at the statistics will still open a lot of eyes and stress how serious an issue motorcycle safety is.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycles account for just 3% of all registered vehicles in the United States in 2011, yet motorcyclists account for 14% of all traffic fatalities. Looking at accident rates per vehicle mile travelled, NHTSA estimates motorcyclists are 30 times more likely than car passengers to die in a crash and five times more likely to be injured.

A separate report by the Governors Highway Safety Association estimates a total of 5,027 motorcycle fatalities from traffic accidents in 2012, a 9% increase from the year before. Many of those deaths could have been prevented if motorists were more mindful of safety.

Summer Auto Tip:

Get rock chips repaired right away! Don't wait to see if the chip is going to spread or not. Heat, road vibrations, even temperature and pressure changes can cause the smallest rock chip to spread suddenly across the entire windshield.
Park your car in the shade. The baking sun is the biggest culprit for windshields cracking out during the summer. Keep your car parked in the shade until the windshield is repaired. It is also a good idea to keep several windows rolled down about half an inch to reduce the internal temperature of your car.
Avoid sudden temperature changes. Don't blast your ice cold A/C directly on the hot windshield. The sudden temperature changes can cause small chips and microscopic cracks or flaws to start cracking.
Don't slam car doors. Damage, such as a rock chip, causes a weak spot in your windshield. Slamming the car door causes a sudden pressure change that might cause the rock chip to spread.

2014 Nissan Altima

Sharon Coral, Internet Sales Manager

Sharon is our Internet Sales Manager at Dick Scott Nissan in Canton, MI. She has been in the Automotive Industry for 2 � years, all of which have been with Dick Scott. One of the things she enjoys most about her job is her great co-workers!

Sharon attended the University of Michigan - Dearborn and now lives in South Lyon with her husband, and High School Sweetheart, of 24 years and their Westie, Jem. She has two children, her son will be a Junior at Eastern Michigan University this fall and her Daughter will be a Freshman this fall, also at EMU.

In her free time Sharon enjoys playing volleyball, bike riding, and spending time with her family! She also likes to garden and has a "green thumb" when it comes to gardening. Her other favorites are: Food: Tomatoes; Movie: Forest Gump; Book: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Recipe Of The Month!

Chocolate Chunk & Marshmallow Sundae

What You Need

2 pkg. (3.9 oz. each) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding

2 cups cold milk

1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed

1 cup JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows

1 pkg. (4 oz.) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, coarsely chopped

2 cups sliced fresh strawberries

Make It

BEAT pudding mixes and milk in large bowl with whisk 2 min.
STIR in COOL WHIP, marshmallows and chocolate.
SPOON into 2-qt. freezer-safe container; cover.
FREEZE 4 hours or until firm. Scoop into dessert dishes; top with berries.

Alternative Recipe: OREO Cookies & Creme Sundae
Prepare using JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding. Substitute 15 coarsely chopped OREO Cookies for the marshmallows and chocolate.
