Dear Neighbor,
The fall has been busy. At the forest preserve we have approved contracts to continue restoration work on many preserves. in addition, you may notice that some aging rest room facilities have been replaced--including some at Half Day Preserve. The new evaporator models reduce odors and decrease our operating costs, because they need less upkeep.
There is a lot of information on voter guides, voting options and more in Voter News below.
The great fall weather offers a number of opportunities to be outside. If you haven't started "Hike Lake County" there is still time. Or simply enjoy a new preserve.
As you can see, there are a number of links in this newsletter asking for your input on Lake County concerns ranging from transportation to housing. I hope you have the time to share your opinions.
I continue to try to keep you up to date on what is happening in Lake County and its communities. Please let me know if there are items of interest to you that should be included.
As always, I am happy to meet with your homeowners association, school, religious, scout or other group about these or any other issues. Please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Ann

Lake County Reports Progress on Strategic Plan
|
Lake County's Strategic Plan, which serves as our roadmap over the next several years, identifies five strategic goals related to transportation, sustainability, healthy communities, economic opportunities and public safety. Residents helped shape the plan by providing input at a series of community forums in 2013. Residents also asked for more communication and transparency about what Lake County is doing with their tax dollars. The county board is committed to being accountable, accessible and transparent. Visit our Strategic Plan page to see examples of how we are making progress toward our strategic goals.

Help Shape the Future of Lake County's Housing and Community Development
|
Lake County government needs your input! Help us prioritize the use of federal grant funds for housing and community development activities over the next five years. Take this survey (available in English or Spanish) to assess affordable housing, neighborhood conditions, access to parks, job training programs and other needs of low- and moderate-income individuals and households. Results of the survey will be presented to the Lake County Board in the fall.

Lake County Focuses on Opportunities to Share Services and Operate More Efficiently
|
During a series of community forums to obtain input into our strategic plan, residents identified the sharing of government services as a priority. As a result, Lake County is focusing on collaborating and coordinating with other units of governments to generate greater economies of scale, foster partnerships and reduce costs. Learn more about our 2014 initiatives and our 2015 goals on our new Shared Services webpage.

Phone Scams

Lake County Sheriff's Office Warns Residents of Phone Scammers
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is urging residents to be alert when speaking to strangers on the phone. Scammers are on the rise in Lake County and nationally. Some scammers appear to be very friendly referring to the victim by first name and asking about their family. Then the scammer tells the victim they are a grandchild or relative stranded in jail or another country. The scammer then asks for money to be wired to an account for bond or air fare.
If you get a call like this, take down the phone number and tell them you will call them back. Then call your local police agency for assistance in verifying if the call is a scam.
Other scammers are more hostile. In Lake County, a scammer claims to be Steve Martin from the IRS. Scammers claiming to be from the IRS or the U.S. Treasury tell victims they owe money to the government and that it must be paid immediately
through a credit card, pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. Those who refuse are told they will be arrested, deported or have their business license or driver's license suspended.
The IRS and U.S. Treasury will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone or wire-transfers. If you get a call like this slam on the scam and call your local police agency.

Deerfield Parkway Concrete Patching
The contractor has begun installing traffic control devices along the roadway. Overnight (24 hr) lane closures will be needed to complete the project. One lane in each direction will be shut down for approximately 7 days (weather dependent) to allow for the removal, replacement and curing of the concrete pavement. The lane closures will then shift to the adjacent lane and the process repeated. The tentative completion date is early November.
Drivers can expect heavy rush hour delays with the lane closures.
Be alert for new traffic patterns, and watch for workers and equipment.
