A Note from Ann
|
Dear Neighbors,At the May County Board meeting we passed a resolution waiving fees associated with flood-related permit fees and the reduction of septic disposal fees. We also approved a number of resolutions with NICOR and Wisconsin Central Ltd to aide in the intersection/grade improvement at Illinois Route 83. For additional details, you can watch board meetings. The Forest Preserve Board passed the 2013-2014 budget in May. At $101 million, it is 11% less than the previous year. This was possible through a decrease in capital projects as well as a decrease in overall operating expenses. Remember: The first installment of your tax bill is due June 6, and the second installment due date is Sept. 6. Taxpayers receive only one bill per year. Property tax payment options include: U.S. mail, drop box, in person at most Lake County banks, and at the Lake County Treasurer's Office, by phone or online.
After the floods we suffered in April, we have seen the devastation of tornadoes throughout the midwest. Are You Ready, is an in-depth guide for citizen preparedness. I encourage you and your family to read this, or other sites, including 72 Hours, to ensure your safety in case of another disaster. There are a number of summer activities throughout the county, including farmer's markets, concerts and festivals. Be sure to read more about them below. If you have a business in Lake County, be sure to read about the June 20th event, Buy Lake County--Build Lake County! As always, please contact me about these or other issues. I'm happy to come and meet with you or your homeowner's association or scout, church or other group.
Sincerely,
847-857-1732--this is a new number

Flood Presentation |
At our May 14th Board Meeting, the Lake County Emergency Management Coordinator gave a presentation about the April 2013 Flood. It was a very interesting presentation that recapped the extent of the flooding, and detailed the response efforts of the local communities. The presentation has photos and statistics to really help tell the story of what our fellow Lake County residents experienced. To watch the presentation, first open the video. Then select "PRESENTATION", the fourth item on the agenda to get to that portion of the meeting.

Forest Preserves News
|
For the fifth consecutive year, total Forest Preserve property tax revenues collected are projected to decrease substantially due to declines in Lake County's Equalized Assessed Value (EAV), and because of the District's conservative budgeting practices and wise use of available fiscal resources. The overall budget decreased $12.4 million (11 percent) from the previous year, primarily due to an $11.4 million (21.5 percent) decrease in the capital budget.

Transportation & Construction Updates
|
Transportation Update
Construction season is upon us and this year is the Lake County Division of Transportation's largest annual highway construction program ever. In this edition of County Update, County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor and Board Member Nick Sauer talk transportation with LCDOT Director Paula Trigg. Watch now.
LAKE COOK ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Cook County Highway Department will be initiating road construction on Lake Cook Road from Pfingsten/Deerlake (near the Lake Cook Metra Station) to the Waukegan Road/Route 43 intersection starting in early April. Traffic control will reduce traffic down to one lane in each direction which will result in major traffic delays. The Village of Deerfield is working with Cook County to monitor the project and has initiated a website for updates.
RT. 21 and RT 137 CONSTRUCTION
The project is approximately 38% complete. Paving of the Stage I - Southbound lanes has commenced. The change to Stage II - Northbound lane construction that will impact the IG Dog Exercise Area is currently expected to occur around July 1, 2013 or shortly thereafter. IDOT has granted an extension of the contractual completion date from August 31, 2013 to January 10, 2014 based on the delays caused by utility company relocations.
You can download a road map of Lake County and a bike path map.
