And, for the first time, the event is being combined with the RBA's Tech/EXPO, which includes Digital Age Seminars important to all businesses.

The day starts at 10 a.m. in the RCC Technology Building with three presentations by noted authorities in the tech arena.

"Admission is free for both the seminars and the exposition and is open to all who want to see the latest and greatest from our business community," added RBA President Al Samuels.

Celebrating the Opening of The Henry

The recent grand opening of The Henry residential complex off Route 202 in Garnerville was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by several local officials. The Henry, a new RBA member, was formerly known as Crystal Hill Club. Under new management, the complex is going through a major renovation program with significant upgrades to individual units as well as a planned remodeling of the Clubhouse. Gathering from the left are: Liz Cino and Gloria Griffis, The Henry marketing specialists; Paul Piperato, Rockland County Clerk; Siobhan Gelb, property manager; Michael Grant, Rockland County legislator; Al Samuels, RBA president/CEO, and Oliver Thomas, service manager.
Welcoming the 'I Lift New York Crane'

RBA President Al Samuels was part of an "on-the-river" tour with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, Ross Pepe of the Construction Industry Council of Westchester and Rockland, Marsha Gordon of the Business Council of Westchester and Bill Mooney and Marisa Brett of the Westchester County Association on Oct. 6.

The group welcomed the world's largest crane, the "Left Coast Lifter," now renamed the "I Lift New York Crane."

"It was an honor to be in the company of those I consider to be true champions of the new bridge," said Samuels. "For Ross, Marsha and myself, we have never wavered in our commitment to this project. We are the three founders of the 'Committee To Build The Bridge Now.' In our capacity as officers of this group, we held forums and rallies to advance construction of the new bridge and worked to develop an understanding that for reasons of safety, economic development and Homeland Security, the new bridge had to be built."

The new Tappan Zee Bridge project is now more than 24 percent complete, Samuels added.

"It is on time and within budget," said Samuels. "I am proud of the role we played in bringing the project to this point and in awe of the governor's ability to create the reality in a matter of months. I was involved with three other governors over a period of many years and never saw the initiative develop beyond talk. This morning (Oct. 6) was a very gratifying moment for me and the RBA."

Green Council Awards Ceremony is Oct. 16

The RBA will present its fifth annual Green Council Awards on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the Rockland Country Club in Sparkill.

This year's honorees are Nyack Hospital (Institutional category), St. Thomas Aquinas College (Educational category), MetroPool in White Plains (Small business/Not-for-profit category) and PDI Nice-Pak in Orangeburg (Large business category). In the last four years, the RBA Green Council Awards have recognized over a dozen organizations for successfully utilizing and implementing sustainable strategies.

"This was a breakout year for the Green Council Awards," said Roger Scheiber, RBA vice president for development. "The winners went beyond adopting green initiatives. It became a culture in their business."

One of the RBA Green Council's goals is to educate business owners about the economic and environmental benefits of adopting green principles. The Green Council Awards program recognizes the businesses that do this best and shares their best practices with all RBA members.

Tickets are $45 for members and $70 for prospective members. For more information, call 845-735-2100.
