The Texts this Weekend

This weekend is the 25th Sunday after Pentecost. The readings include Hebrews 10:11-25 and Mark 13:1-8:

As he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!" Then Jesus asked him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down."

When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?" Then Jesus began to say to them, "Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs."

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

I say to the Lord, 'You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.'

As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble, in whom is all my delight.

Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows; their drink-offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage.

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.

I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure.

For you do not give me up to Sheol, or let your faithful one see the Pit.

You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

Psalm 16

Exercize

"Those who think they have not time for Exercise Will sooner or later Have to find time for
Illness"
- Edward Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby (1826-1893)

As the weather outside becomes less hospitable for those who have been venturing out in our wonderful fall weather, we need to find new ways to get our exercise.

Leaf raking, yard clean-up or snow shoveling are great options for exercise, especially when you use good body dynamics, i.e. lifting with your legs, core and glutes, (and not just your back and arms) and being careful not to lift too heavy of load.

What other opportunities for exercise do we have as the weather turns?

1.Continue to walk, run or jog outside. Dress for the weather in layers, cover your mouth and nose when the temp dips too low. If the trails you are using have ice, consider wearing YakTrax or similar ice traction shoe attire.

2.Take the stairs at work or park your car farther away from the building you are entering and take the extra steps.

3.Walk/run on an indoor track free during the winter months at the Plymouth Creek Fieldhouse. Dome temps depend on the outdoor temperature and range from 30-55 degrees. For the track schedule please see the calendar on their website or call the hotline at 763-509-5292. On this track 5.25 laps is equal to 1 mile. Baby strollers are permitted.

4.Join the many walkers at one of the indoor malls:

Ridgedale Mall
952-541-4864
12401 Wayzata Blvd.
Minnetonka

2.5 laps = 1 mile = 2000 steps

Doors open:
7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Monday - Friday
7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday
 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday

5.Join an exercise class through a local city or school program. Plymouth Park and Rec has many kids, teens and adult classes. Your local school district has exercise classes available.

6.Use exercise DVDs at home or sign up for an exercise channel on your TV.

Grab a friend and motivate each other to keep active during the winter.

Be active and healthy,
