Reading the book of Acts is like having a front row seat to the birth of the church. After the day of Pentecost recorded in Acts 2, we read about Peter and the apostles, Stephen, Paul, Barnabas and others. We read about the persecution of the apostles, the conversion of Saul, disagreements, arguments and the council at Jerusalem. And, this week, we read the famous sermon of Paul delivered at Athens in Acts 17 on Friday. The group that traveled to Greece in 2014 stood at the same site where those words were first spoken. This is a mighty message masterfully delivered.

For those who are members of St. Philip the Deacon, pay particular attention to the reading on Tuesday. It includes the story of our St. Philip (Acts 8). You might plan to take some to visit the worship center during the week and stop and reflect on the three icons handing just inside and to the left of the worship center entrance. The chapel contains a bronze statue of Philip. Be sure to stop there as well for a moment of prayer in thanksgiving for the many faithful witness of the faith.
